Highlights
  • Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral) - This is our meeting point and the place where we start our tour. A place of history, where almost 800 years ago the Cathedral of Porto was built. The city initially grew from this hill, the Morro da Pena Ventosa.
  • Statue of Prince Henry the Navigator - From the meeting point we go down towards the Douro river, we will pass in one of the most beautiful squares of the city, the Infante D. Henrique square (with its statue). We will observe two historical buildings of mandatory visit: the Palcio da Bolsa (Stock Exchange Palace) and the Church of St. Francis (14th century).
  • Miragaia - Now we follow the right bank of the river, we will have the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful houses built on the slope of the Douro. In this historic district we can glimpse some remarkable buildings, such as the S. Pedro de Miragaia Church, the old Customs house - Alfandega (currently Congress Center and Museum of Transport) or the Museum of Discoveries.
  • Ponte da Arrabida - Our route follows the riverside, after passing through the Massarelos neighborhood, we spot the unique and fantastic Arrbida Bridge, designed by the renowned Porto engineer, Edgar Cardoso. In the 60s (20th century), it was considered one of the bridges with the longest arch built in reinforced concrete in the world.
  • Miradouro de Santa Catarina - We arrive at another neighborhood, in ancient times, it was a typical fishing neighborhood, very close to the mouth of the river, it is called: Lordelo do Ouro. We will pause at this beautiful viewpoint over the Douro estuary - watch and record the landscape! From here we can see the Local Natural Reserve of the Douro Estuary, the fishing district S. Pedro da Afurada, the Calm Garden, among other points of interest.
  • Promenade Foz do Douro - After the break we continue towards the Atlantic, passing by a small fishing port, the Cantareira and we arrive at Foz do Douro. Here we will glimpse the beautiful gardens of Passeio Alegre and the surrounding houses and buildings of the Porto aristocracy.
  • Matosinhos Beach - We follow the Atlantic avenues of Porto, Avenida do Brasil and Montevideu to reach the city limits. We can see the city park on one side and the Matosinhos beach in the background on the other. The route continues through the city of Matosinhos to the beach, where we will take another break.

Quick 2 hour Porto and neighboring municipal area trip - The trip was a quick 2 hour afternoon trip in Porto and the nearby municipal areas. The open jeep style electric vehicle was charming and with no noise. The weather was perfect and so was our guide and driver, who knew all the places for taking good pictures around the city. We explored more the ocean side of Porto and the old churches. Would recommend highly.

Best of the best - We were so fortunate to find Ricardo, an amazing guide, and his adorable electric Citroen convertible. Our other guide had taken ill so we literally stumbled on him and his cute car while traipsing the hills of the city. He picked us up promptly the next morning at the hotel and off we went to Faz which we were interested in exploring. Definitely worth the ride to see another side of Porto . We also extended the tour to explore further out on the coast Ricardo has a wealth of knowledge regarding the history , culture , food and art of the city of Porto. He is also a pleasure to spend time with. I rank him the best of the best! Only thing that saddens me is that we were leaving the next day and did not get to spend more time with this fabulous gentleman and learn more from him. Thank you Ricardo

The perfect start to any stay in Porto - Porto is 40% steep slopes going down and a surprising 65% steep hills going up. And zipping around in a Tuk Tuk for 2 hours is a great way to get your bearings. On this tour we were able to chat with a local on subjects from politics, through the price of milk and, obviously, art.
