Additional Information

On this journey alongside the banks of the Douro, we will unveil how Porto and Portugal transformed into a seafaring and colonial powerhouse thanks to its intrepid explorers. Because its unique geographical location at the extremities of Europe with just two boundaries (Spain and the Atlantic Ocean) compelled it to seek prosperity in uncharted territories, this culminated in redefining global trade, maritime navigation, and shipbuilding, among other prominent achievements.

While Portugal’s explorations and conquests overseas are renowned, we also cannot overlook its conquest of global cuisine through the simple pleasures of sardines and codfish, all complemented with splashes of wine, ranging from the famous port wine to the refreshing vinho verde. Our tours always allocate room for culinary delights, recognizing that a man is not sustained by history alone. Moreover, when discussing wine, the conversation inevitably gravitates towards Gaia, Porto’s neighboring city offering unparalleled views of Oporto.

Our expedition navigates through walls, symbol-laden neighborhoods, stunning viewpoints, bridges, and an array of tales - some uplifting, some melancholic; some valorous, some timid; some inspiring, some reprehensible.

  • We will stop outside of different monuments to do explanation but we will not go inside of any of them.
  • The duration of the walk with explanations is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
