This expedition begins at the plaza named after Henry the Navigator, also known as the Infante of Sagres, the initiator of Portugal’s empire and a beloved figure of Porto, as this was his birthplace. His residence and tale will be part of our discussion, as it’s key to grasp Portugal’s history across four continents.
Our journey will take us through Ribeira and Barredo, the most ancient districts of Porto, where we’ll observe their past, present, and future. We’ll discuss the operations of the medieval city - its fortifications, entryways, and stations, its traditional customs, and most importantly, the significance of the Douro River. Like many great cities, Porto was founded along the banks of this magnificent river.
The last part of our tour will delve into the most notable aspect of both river banks - the famous Port Wine. Despite the name, we’ll explain why it’s neither wine nor Port Wine at a cozy winery where our tour concludes.
Throughout our excursion, we’ll share tips on the best dining places, drinking spots, sunset views, and leisure activities.
