Lovely hike - We had Reuben as our guide who was very knowledgable and engaging during the whole day. The hike is a combination of tunnels and cliff side paths, they are quite uneven and can be quite wet so ensure you have sturdy and waterproof footwear and layers for all weathers! The waterfall is very stunning and well worth the hike!

Lugar maravilloso - The tour was amazing, so green, water every where, and the best Rubén, a really profesional guide, with a lot of knowledge about plants, enviroment, taking care of us all the time and funny, intelligent and responsable, very recomendable.

Very beautiful landscapes, to do. - Very pleasant walk with very beautiful landscapes. The walk itself is easy, the slope is very gentle. Headlamps are provided by the guide for passing through the tunnels. At this time of year the levada is quite busy but it remains very pleasant. Perfect guide and driver.

Great walk with fantastic scenery - Great walk with fantastic scenery. Relatively easy walk with majority flat, a couple of caves where you need to lower your head and some narrow walkways but the views are amazing. The guide shared lots of knowledge of the area, wildlife and plants

An interesting levada walk an easy to moderate walker could do - Lovely walk, very enjoyable and the guide was friendly and welcoming. We appreciated that she kept safety on mind and gave little nuggets of interest along the way. I would suggest that the level of difficulty is highlighted and what level of fitness is needed so everyone can prepare for the day ahead.

The mud and puddles and... - The mud and puddles and the strong winds that meant we couldn’t do half the walk - so no tunnels and we never made it to the Caldiera Verde. Probably sensible not to do this walk in the winter! Our lovely informative guide saved the day, always ready to answer questions and remaining cheerful throughout.

More of a route march than a strioll - The guide picked us up from the hotel. On the way to destination he gave information about the island and places we passed unfortunately he was often difficult to hear from the back of the minibus if others were chatting. On the walk he stopped to impart information about flora and fauna and the building of the lavada. He kept a quick pace and much of the going was single file due to those coming the other way and the narrowness of the path sometimes having to walk on top of the lavada. It was raining and cloudy when we set out so views were minimal unfortunately this was not taken in to account for the return leg were in sunshine we often wanted to stop and find those things pointed out on the way there or for us to experience the beauty and stillness of the area. Unfortunately again we seemed to be raced along to return. A stop for toilets & coffee on the return could have been given up for extra time to appreciate the area we walked through

Very poor trip, made worse by surly, rude guide - I had high hopes for this trip and had done my research beforehand and Madeira Adventure Company came with good reviews. The walk was just beautiful by the way - but the guide (Samuel) was just rude, unfriendly and inhospitable. We have done many trips this time and have had excellent service, but this guide is a poor reflection of the company and I know others on the trip were not happy either, so much so he didn't get a single tip. We were constantly told to hurry up, with limited time for taking any pictures and we could barely understand him, which actually we were grateful for by the end of the day. I don't pay to go on trips to be treated as a child and scolded...! The walk back was so rushed and we could hardly keep up, he kept saying this walk should take 4.5 hours but this trip was going to be 5.15 hours and he was not happy. In my experience of this walk and this company I would certainly not suggest using this company, in case you get Samuel and I really hope this company take notice of this review. Next time we will hire our own car and do any lavada walks ourselves. A beautiful walk, ruined by a rude guide! PS - bus driver was lovely and a gentleman.

I can’t recommend - Amazing place and we did enjoy ourselves but… we was very rushed in our tour. We kept getting a “hurry up” and “there will be plenty of time for photos” which there was not. The views were fantastic but the only opportunity for a photo was a picture of the waterfall which for me personally was not the best part and a bit anticlimactic. On the way back we stopped at a cafe to see the traditional houses which again was a bit rushed only for the bus to get a flat tyre (the irony). If it wasn’t so rushed the trip would have been great, but no one wants to feel like that on a trip so I simply cannot recommend.
