  • Schloss Moritzburg - Moritzburg Palace is one of the jewels of Baroque architecture. It is set in romantic countryside amidst a flowering garden on the banks of a picturesque pond. Originally a hunting lodge, it was rebuilt in 1742 to its present impressive appearance. Inside are extensive collections, including the oldest German billiard table, dating from 1720. There is a museum of furniture and porcelain from Meissen, Dresden and Asia, a collection of tapestries and a collection of hunting trophies. The most valuable antlers are from Russia, said to have been brought as a gift from the Russian Tsar Peter I. An interesting feature is the feather room, called the Federzimmer. The entire bed is covered with nearly two million bird feathers of various colours. You will also be fascinated by the furniture, paintings and leather wallpaper with drawings. The castle is home to one of the oldest active stud farms in Germany. Racehorses have been bred here since 1828.
  • Chemnitz - Originally known for its textile industry, Chemnitz became a centre for engineering and car manufacturing in the 19th and 20th centuries. Remnants of its industrial heritage can be seen at the Saxon Industrial Museum, housed in a beautifully restored factory building. The Gunzenhauser Museum, a modern art museum, is one of the most important in Germany. Opened in 2007, it contains more than 2,459 works by 270 artists. The Schlossberg Museum is housed in a former castle and houses an extensive collection of regional history, art and culture. The Kaßberg district in the historic city centre is one of the largest Art Nouveau districts in Germany. Another iconic symbol of Chemnitz is the Red Tower. Climb to the top for a panoramic view. The Chemnitz Opera House is a visual treat with its spectacular architecture. The city also has its quiet oases. These include Küchwald Park, with its beautiful gardens, paths and small lake, and Schlossteich Park near the former castle.
  • Barockgarten Grosssedlitz - Known as the ‘Saxon Versailles’, Großsedlitz is one of the pearls of Baroque architecture. With its meticulously designed gardens, magnificent palaces and historical significance, it offers visitors a glimpse of the grandeur of 18th century European aristocracy. The palace was built as a summer residence for Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. Its lavish interiors include intricately decorated rooms, magnificent halls and sumptuous period furnishings. One of the highlights of Großsedlitz is the Nymphenbad, a stunning open-air pavilion in the gardens. This elegant building with a central pool surrounded by columns, statues and frescoes creates an atmosphere of classical beauty. There is also an impressive orangery and a series of historic greenhouses.
