Tagua Tagua Lake is situated in the Puelo mountain valley, to the east of the Reloncaví estuary and 11 km from the town of Río Puelo, the capital of the Cochamó commune. The lake has a linear, elongated shape, stretching approximately 9 km with greenish waters and depths exceeding 45 meters. It is almost entirely encircled by inaccessible rocky walls, with waters cascading from the steep, vegetation-covered mountainsides into narrow gorges, often forming torrents or waterfalls. The lake was discovered by axemen in the 1860s during their search for Alerce trees and other species for exploitation.
