Puntarenas Zipline & Crocodile Tour

Embark on an exhilarating shore excursion in the Costa Rican rainforest. Zip line through the stunning Carara Adventure Park and spot crocodiles on a thrilling boat tour.

Duration: 6 hours
Cancellation: 24 hours
Highlights
  • Vista Los Suenos Horseback Riding - Vista Los Sueños is a beautiful adventure center located on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, near Playa Herradura and Jaco Beach. Here, you can enjoy a variety of tours including zipline canopy, horseback riding, ATV, Buggy Tours, Chocolate Tour, and mountain biking.

  • Tarcoles - The Tarcoles River is where we operate boat tours to observe the large crocodiles and abundant wildlife. The Tárcoles River, also known as the Grande de Tárcoles River or the Río Grande de Tarcoles, originates on the southern slopes of the Cordillera Central volcanic range and flows southwest to the Gulf of Nicoya. The Tarcoles River is famous in Costa Rica because, as you drive over the Tarcoles Bridge, you can look down and see at least a dozen impressive crocodiles sunbathing below. The river flows towards the Pacific coast, spanning 111 kilometers before reaching its final destination. The Tarcoles River is teeming with crocodiles, some reaching sizes of three to four meters long (12 feet). These beasts are not to be messed with! But visiting the bridge is a great way to see them safely.

  • Province of Puntarenas - Puntarenas is one of the most important tourism regions in Costa Rica. Its coastline is full of islands, inlets, beaches, and beautiful natural treasures, making it an excellent tourist destination. There are numerous attractions based around the beaches, as well as protected areas, both on land and around its islands. The area’s center is located in Puntarenas, which serves as a hub for lodging, distribution, port of call, and excursions. The city of Puntarenas is rich in history, traditions, and customs. Historically, it was the most important port on the Costa Rican Pacific, through which the main exports that allowed the country’s development during the 19th century and part of the 20th century took place. Due to its coastal position, it was an important center for the arrival of immigrants in the mid-20th century. Its boom as a tourist destination dates back to 1940.

Zipline and Crocodile Tour - Zipline was top notch. Team of guides performed flawlessly. Friendly and safe. Crocodile viewing was a bit dated. The loading pier seemed kind of rickety. We did see huge crocodiles, did not disappoint.

Fun, fun, fun - We had great fun. It was hard work, and we ached the next day but we saw the jungle from a different angle. The tour people forgot to drop us off so we were late arriving which meant the staff rushed us through the lines…but.. there were lots of staff, they were great fun and we enjoyed ourselves.

Safe and Fun Experiences - We arrived to Puntarenas by cruise ship. Our driver was easy to find and picked up several of us. It was a longer drive than expected from the port, but our guide and driver narrated about the history, plants, and animals of Costa Rica. We were dropped off at our zip lining adventure. The driver and guide continued on to drop others off at different excursions. The zip line company was very professional and I felt safe 100% of the time. We were there for about 2 hours. It was very fun and I wouldn’t hesitate to book this again. We enjoyed a beer while we waited for our driver to return. Once we were picked up we met the rest of our van passengers at the rivers edge for our crocodile boat tour. We saw some crocs, but is was midday so they were pretty lethargic. We actually saw more crocs in the water while crossing a bridge. It was a great way to spend the day in Costa Rica

Zip line was fun,... - Zip line was fun, tourguides very nice, friendly and helpful. 10 lines 200 to 400m long, two connecting hanging bridges. A little detour courtesy tour guide and driver got us to see a macaw family sitting high in the tree and scream back at us for disturbing their peace 😄. The boat tour is in the mouth of a river, almost no current, brackish muddy water and boat moves by outboard motor. Area access limited by tide height. Covered maybe 2mi roundtrip. Saw some crocs, old and young, a few birds and beautiful vegetation. Quite funny narration by boat guide. But too much waiting between activities incl a unnecessary 40min stop at a souveniershop with option to get sth to eat in restaurant, just 20 mi away from port. Coming of a cruiseship food already well covered and this tour was aimed at cruisers only. While the wait after zipline would have been great opportunity for another round, we did not know that it would have been enough time, so was never an option or offered. Overall this is more a 3.5 hr tour rather than the advertised 5+ hrs, and we returned to port after ca 7 hrs! FYI : NCL docks in the commercial caldera port. You are not allowed to walk from pier to entrance (ca 400m, 1/4mi)!. The tour operator does know which of the two puntarenas ports you will arrive if you provide ship info, but they don't have license to drive into he port, so you are at the mercy of a shuttle that was provided by NCL, but timing and logistics, execution was a NCL disaster

Fun time!! - It was fun! The tour guy was informative. There were 10 lines and very friendly staff helping us along. The crocodile boat tour was not bad, we did see some crocodiles and the captain of the boat did something crazy...taking picture with one hand and opening the crocodile's mouth with the other hand! He was in the water!! OMG

Unfortunate circumstances - Unfortunately our tour had to turn around after being in traffic for three hours. We never reached our destination. I would recommend that tour drivers check traffic conditions prior to picking people up so that they can have the option of cancelling without losing their day in traffic.
