Experience Sri lanka like a local - On 27th February we did the “peacock hills, food tasting and ramboda falls” tour. I expected to be joined by others so was pleasantly surprised to find out it was a private tour for my partner and I. From Nuwara Eliya we had 2 hour tuktuk through beautiful mountain area to the foot of a hill, we then walked approximately 30 mins through the forest to the most spectacular view point I have ever seen in my life! Asky was great with taking photos and telling us the history of the area, pointing out what we could see. Following this, we arrived at a hillside shack for the most authentic Sri Lankan brunch ever, roti, dhal, samosa and condiments, all eaten as the locals do with our hands. The best meal I’ve eaten so far in Sri Lanka! A quick tea and local sweet to finish before heading to the tea plantation. A 30 min tour which was informative and interesting before we got to taste all the teas available overlooking the tea fields in a wall to ceiling glass cafe. Naturally we purchased plenty of tea to bring home but it is not obligatory and no one pushed us to do so. Next, full of caffeine, we drove a short while and made the 20 minute trek up to Ramboda Waterfalls. I was blown away by the beauty, it was very quiet with maybe only 10-15 other people at the top of the waterfall, we had a quick dip which was so refreshing after the walk! On the journey back to Nuwara Eliya we made our final stop at a local shop, Asky explained to us that each local village has shops where the women cook different traditional sweets and snacks to sell and make money. The pancake was delicious and aptly eaten the day after British pancake day! We purchased some to take home, it was very pleasing to be able to support the local community in such a way! All in all this trip was the best thing we’ve done, if you want to really experience Sri Lanka like the locals do then this is the trip for you, traditional, private and beautiful! Thank you so so much Asky!
