Highlights
  • Diri Baba Mausoleum - Diri-Baba is a distinctive 15th-century two-story mausoleum situated along the Baku to Shamakhi road in the village of Maraza, opposite an old cemetery. For many years, locals believed that a saint named Diri-Baba was buried here and remained incorruptible. Numerous legends and mystical tales are linked to this site. From the 17th century onwards, it began to draw numerous pilgrims and travelers. The mausoleum’s unique feature is that the architect seemingly “embedded” the tomb into the rock, making it appear as if it is suspended, detached from the ground. The structure is admired for its architectural austerity, clean lines, and the contrast between the dark rock’s irregularities and the light, smooth surface of its walls, which gives it a solemn appearance.
  • Juma Mosque - The Juma Mosque in Shamakhi is unparalleled in Azerbaijan. Its vast prayer hall is divided into three independent sections, connected by wide open arches. Each section has its own mihrab and entrance. The mosque has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times due to wars and earthquakes, with its current appearance dating back to the 20th century.
  • Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum - The Yeddi Gumbez Mausoleum, or “Seven Domes,” dating back to the 15th century, is located at the base of the Gulistan fortress. It is popularly known as the tomb of the Shirvan rulers in Shamakhi, where notable members of the Shirvanshah dynasty are buried. The name “Seven Domes” refers to the seven tombstones within the crypt.
  • Lahic - Lahij is a village named after the Lahij tribe that settled here in the 4th-5th centuries from Iran. This historical and architectural site was established in the 5th century in the Girdimanchay river canyon. It features preserved ancient mosques and baths, as well as a medieval water supply and sewage system.

Very interesting tour - It was a very beautiful tour as we visited several spots. The Lahic village is a bit far but it's worth the trip and we could see a coppersmith working. The Juma mosque, the Shirvanshas Tombs and the Diri Baba mausoleum are very interesting. A big thank you to our professional and nice guide Aylan.
