Duration: 4 hours

Highlights
  • Gobustan Rock Art - We will utilize a private car/private minibus (depending on the number of people joining the tour) to reach Gobustan National Reserve. At Gobustan Museum you will get a broad information from your tour guide and explore life of Gobustan’s ancient inhabitants through interactive screens and expositions.

After visiting Gobustan museum, you will advance to the mountain in order to see real rock paintings in the open air museum. The petroglyphs (stone carvings) located in Gobustan are as significant as Chauvet Caves, and were left untouched for milleniums until discovered in the 1930s. You will have a chance to witness those prehistoric engravings, including images of old inhabitants that seem to be dancing a tribal dance!

  • Mud Volcanoes - Later on, the tour will proceed to the mud volcanoes area which is 20 mins away from Gobustan National Museum. Azerbaijan keeps the first place in the world for the number of mud volcanoes. About 300 mud volcanoes are to be found in Azerbaijan – at the shore, in the sea and on islands. During this trip you will get a great chance to see these rare and active volcanoes from very close distance. Some people swear by the mud’s medical benefits, so it might be worth to try it on your skin!

Important Note:

On wet seasons/rainy weather conditions, the Mud Volcanoes can be very muddy and impossible to reach by car. Therefore, in case of rainy weather/bad road conditions the trip to mud volcanoes will be substituted with a visit to Bibiheybat Mosque on the way back to the city center.

  • Sahil Park - Your tour will end at Sahil Park, one of the central parks of Baku. We can also drop you off at your accommodation, if you prefer so.

Good half day tour - Booked the small group, and it was only me, which was great as I could do it all at my pace. The tour guide arif was a lovely guy and was able to answer my questions. Overall, I enjoyed visiting both sites, each unique in their own way. I would recommend this tour.

A great half-day trip - It was really helpful for me to be picked up from my hotel in the Old City. Azay was my guide and he was so friendly and kind and totally informed on all aspects of the volcanoes and rock art. The mud volcanoes were reached by a quite exciting off-road route, the volcanoes themselves were small but interesting and almost unknown elsewhere. The rock art museum was very impressive and well set-out and the walking trail for the rock art was like another world, silent and brooding. Good stuff. Azay and the driver also took me to the Roman inscription nearby which I appreciated as I was keen to see it. When my iPad ran out of juice Azay took some photos and e-mailed them to me. Big thanks to Azay and all the guys involved, I would definitely recommend them and this trip to anyone staying in Baku.

Gobustan Petroglyphs & Mud Volcanoes - Very satisfactory half-day tour with Seymur and driver, who I had entirely to myself - it must have been a quiet day! Seymur was very knowledgeable with excellent English. First we visited the mud volcanoes (via a VERY bumpy road - great fun) and their constant burping and bubbling, then the petroglyphs museum & site which were most impressive. Well organised, friendly guide/driver. Dropped off back near Sahil metro station to continue exploring Baku.
