Shotover River - After meeting the coach driver, you will travel the short distance from town to
Rafting Base where rafting clothing including wetsuit, life jacket, spray jacket and helmet will be issued. Then enjoy a 40 minute journey along the historic Skippers Road begins, which is one of the Top 10 most dangerous roads in NZ.
The upper section of the Shotover River gives you time to practice your paddle techniques before hitting the white water of the lower canyon.
Paddle numerous rapids such as After Shock, Jaws, Toilet and Sequel during the 1.45 - 2 hrs of river time.
You are then plunged into darkness as you negotiate the 170m long Oxenbridge Tunnel before bursting into Cascade Rapid to complete the adventure.
A short walk brings you back to Rafting Base where there are hot showers prior to a return transfer to Queenstown.
Please note for safety we have minimum weight restriction of 40 kg and maximum weight of 120 kg to participate.

Join our Queenstown Rafting team on the iconic Shotover River for a whitewater rapid adventure. Our world class guides are second to none, always going the extra mile to make your trip one to remember forever.
Start with an unforgettable coach trip through Skippers Canyon, famous for it’s exciting cliff edges, enough to get your adrenaline pumping before we hit the water.
Experience grade 3–5 whitewater rapids in one of the most scenic environments in the world. The rapids can change on a daily basis, but be assured our guides are expertly trained and have a keen sense of adventure. They will guide you through canyons, navigate the rapids and the famous 170m Oxenbridge tunnel to finish.
- Must be able to swim
- Rafting while pregnant is prohibited
- Rafting with any heart condition is prohibited
- Minimum weight 40kg
- Maximum weight 120kg
- Minimum age is 13 years. Children aged between 13 and 15 years must be accompanied by a guardian
- All travelers between the age of 16 and 17 years require a waiver to be signed by a guardian if they are unaccompanied
- You must bring a swimsuit and towel

Fun tour - I’d go again - Fantastic tour for anyone looking for a nice half day option. The rapids were fun but nothing requiring prior skills. Staff were great guides - and the safety kayaks provide a nice backup should you happen to fall out (nobody did on my tour, but can happen).
Gorgeous area so the scenery was also stunning. The drive in was full of beautiful scenery and then the river itself was amazing - plenty of relaxing sections between the rapids to soak it in. Really enjoyed it and love that they include the photos in the price - so I have some pictures to share with family and friends (the other adventure tour I did wanted 20% on top of the tour price for photos).
If I’m back in Queenstown I’d be looking to go again.

A great way to enjoy the roads and river around Queenstown - Very well organised and great fun! The drive en route was so worth seeing, and the rafting exciting but the team made sure you were kept as safe as possible. A very professional set up and a great way to enjoy the area around Queenstown.

Shotover rafting, Must Do. - Cracker run, water was pumping after lots of rain, our guide was so relaxed but fun and VERY professional... The time flew by rolling through the river, wanted to go again.

Amazing rafting - This was the third time white water rafting for us and it was the best one we ever done! We were lucky that the day before the rafting was raining and the water level reached the highest point in 2 month. It came out very intense and a few of very challenging rapids. We even got to do the tunnel that was purely relying on water level. Wow it was amazing ! Thank you for giving us a such thrilled experience Team!

An experience that I will remember forever. In a positive sense of course :) - It was a really great experience. It was great fun. Our boat captain was very nice and very competent, so I was never afraid that anything would happen to me. I felt very comfortable and was able to enjoy everything despite the bad weather. The supposedly hot showers that awaited us after rafting were not as hot as I expected. But after such a great day of adventure, that wasn't a problem for us. The guides are very concerned about your safety and provide you with complete information. I felt very well looked after.
