Highlights
  • Royal Palace Rabat Morocco - The Royal Palace, formerly known as the Imperial Palace or “dar el-makhzen,” in Rabat, the capital of Morocco, stands as the primary royal residence in the country, serving as the official dwelling for the Moroccan royal family. Initially constructed as the palace for Alawite sultans, it now represents one of several palaces or royal residences within the “imperial cities,” such as the Skhirat Palace, which gained notoriety during an attempted coup d’état in the era of King Hassan II. Presently, the Royal Palace of Rabat functions primarily as an administrative building, as King Mohammed VI, the son of Hassan II, does not inhabit the premises . It is within this palace that the seat of government is situated.
  • Mausoleum of Mohammad V - The Mausoleum of Mohammed V is a mausoleum located across from the Hassan Tower in Rabat, Morocco. It contains the tombs of the Moroccan king Mohammed V and his two sons, late King Hassan II and Prince Abdallah.
  • Hassan Tower - The Hassan Tower stands as an iconic structure in Rabat, the capital of Morocco, serving as the minaret for a 12th-century mosque that remains incomplete.
  • Bab Chellah - Embark on a journey to explore the Challa Fortress, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012 and a prominent tourist destination in Rabat. This fortress encompasses Roman artifacts alongside a medieval Muslim necropolis, offering a captivating blend of historical remnants.
  • Andalusian Gardens - These gardens, laid out by the French during the colonial period, are located within the Kasbah des Oudaias. Full of citrus trees, lofty palms and vibrant bougainvillea, they make a wonderful shady retreat on hot days.
  • Rabat Old Town - Founded in the 17th century, the Rabat medina is the work of Andalusian refugees expelled from Spain by King Philip III. It was built south of the Bouregreg river and is protected by multiple enclosures, making it one of the best protected medinas in Morocco.
  • Kasbah des Oudaias - The Kasbah des Oudayas, also known as Oudaïas, is a historical fortified military camp situated in Rabat, constructed during the 12th century. Since 2012, it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site [1]. Notably, within the kasbah, stands one of the earliest palaces erected by the enduring royal dynasty of the Alaouites.
