Jerusalem Old and New.

Jerusalem - Starting in Jerusalem’s Old City at Mount Scopus, historically a Jewish cemetery and a Christian place of worship due to its connection to Jesus and Mary. The view reveals the Old City and the Dome of the Rock, built on the site of Herod’s Temple, later destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD. Exploring the Old City leads to the Zion Gate, the ancient Byzantine Cardo, and the Western Wall, a holy site for Jewish prayers since 70 BC. Continuing to the Via Dolorosa and the Holy Sepulchre Church, a Crusader-restored site marking Jesus’s crucifixion and burial. The journey culminates in the New City at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum, offering insight into the tragic experiences of Jews during World War II.

Bethlehem and Jericho

Bethlehem - You’ll return back in the direction of Jerusalem past the Judean Mountains to Bethlehem, where lived Jesse, King David’s father and is the birthplace of Jesus. (Mathew 2:1). You will approach Manger Square and enter the Church of the Nativity through a small door. Constructed in the 4th century, this church has been renovated and restored from the 6th century up to recently. Situated below it is the grotto where the birth of Jesus took place. Inside the church, there is a fourteen-point star marking the spot where Jesus was born as well as an altar commemorating the three wise men. The next part of your journey is the Crusader Church of Saint Catherine where in the grotto below Saint Jerome religiously translated the Bible from Hebrew to Latin, creating what is known as The Vulgate. Finally, we reach Shepherd’s Field in Bethlehem. This is where an Angel of the Lord approached the Shepherds on Christmas Eve to inform them of the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of God.

Masada and Dead Sea

Dead Sea Region - Departing Jerusalem, journey through the world’s lowest road toward the Dead Sea and Masada. En route, catch a distant view of Jericho, known biblically for Jesus’ miracles and Joshua’s conquest. Pass the Inn of the Good Samaritan, linked to the parable of kindness.

Reach the Dead Sea, known for its high salt content, continuing to Masada. Instead of the ancient Snake Path, take the cable car to Herod’s mountain fortress. Witness the site of a Roman siege ending in a tragic Jewish mass suicide. Return to the Dead Sea, observing the oasis of Ein Gedi, where David sought refuge, followed by Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Conclude at the Dead Sea, a therapeutic wonder due to its salt-rich waters, offering a unique floating experience known worldwide for its mineral-rich properties.

Nazareth Sea of Galilee and the Jordan River Yardenit Baptismal site

Nazareth - As we enter Nazareth we take a visit to the Church of the Annunciation, built on the location where Gabriel the Angel appeared and told Mary she would soon have a son called Jesus. (Luke 1:26) Next to this church is the Church of Saint Joseph. This church was built in the same location where Jesus’s father had his carpentry workshop.

Capernaum - Departing from Nazareth we arrive at the Sea of Galilee and pass Cana, where water was turned into wine by Jesus. Approaching Mount of Beatitudes we come to Capernaum on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. The shore where Jesus walked along the water on calm water. (Mark 4:35-41). We will visit the place where Peter lived and the Church of the Multiplication.

Caesarea, Haifa, Acre, Rosh Hanikra

Caesarea - Departing from Tel Aviv northbound we begin our journey by going along the coastal road of the Mediterranean Sea passing the cities of Herzliya and Natanya eventually arriving at the ancient ruins of Caesarea Maritama. Built by Herod and named after Caesar, the Roman Emperor. From the ruins, we can tell this was a prosperous luxurious city. Results of the archaeological excavations we have a display of gateways, a moat, walls, and rooms. Also, explore the Roman amphitheater which continues to have performances by international artists today thanks to the sea sand that covered and protected the structure for centuries. Besides the amphitheater are the remains of a Hippodrome and a Roman temple. From here we have a view of the port, wherein the past was busy with merchant ships transporting treasures to and from Rome. After the Roman period, the ancient city became neglected for centuries. Then the Crusaders arrived, but yet again the city was left in neglect

Haifa - Next, we travel to Haifa, a city located on the hills of Mount Carmel, and from there we go to the foot of the mountain to the Baha’i Shrine and gardens. The Gardens begin at the foot of the mountain, extending upward about a kilometre covering an area of 200,000 square metres. Beautiful flowers bursting with glorious colors cover this area. Along with two streams cascading down the mountains through steps, terraces and bridges. A wonder to see. The Gardens display a mixture of nationalities, from the Persian gardens of Shiraz and Iran, the gardens of India and English Gardens. Going northward, our journey takes us to the city of Haifa, situated on the slopes of Mount Carmel. We visit the amazing network of limestone grottoes (caves) caused by a combination of underground earthquake shocks, crashing waves, and erosion gradually creating what is now a natural phenomenon.

Rosh Hanikra - Next, the tour reaches the extreme northern border where Israel meets Lebanon and the sea crashes against the white cliffs of Rosh HaNikra. Over millennia nature has hollowed out a labyrinth of tunnels and caves in the rock. The reflection of the white rock onto the blue water creates a magical turquoise color. Once the caves were only accessible from the water but today tourists can take a cable car down to the caves.

Acre - As we return Back towards Tel Aviv we stop by the city of Acre (Akko). Situated on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and benefitting from a natural harbor. It is one of the oldest occupied cities in the world dating back to the Middle Bronze Age some 4,000 years ago. There are many historical sites still bearing discoveries, and reconstruction continues thanks to further excavations from archaeologists. The ancient city walls provide fortifications surrounding the city and have been reconstructed for many centuries. During the 20th century, this northern fortification of the citadel of Acre was used as a prison and gallows for activists of Jewish Zionist resistance movements.
