The origin of the name is indigenous, from the Tupi “tab-moi-inda-ré” which means repopulator. Tamandaré is a municipality located on the south coast of the state of Pernambuco, more than 100 km from the capital of Pernambuco. One of the entrances that give access to the municipality is the Saltinho Biological Reserve, an area covered by native vegetation of the Atlantic Forest.
The municipality is prominent in the production of sugar cane and tourism. Its border is formed by the beaches: Tamandaré, Barra, Pontal do Lira, Campas and dos Carneiros. Praia dos Carneiros is among the 15 most beautiful beaches in the world.
Another tourist spot is the Forte de Santo Inácio located near Praia de Tamandaré, built in the 17th century.
