Additional Information

Embark on an enchanting stroll through Reykjavik’s oldest district, stepping into the world of Elves and Trolls in Iceland. To discover a unique aspect of Icelandic culture, join us for a visit to the city center’s elfstone and a ghostly stroll through two of Reykjavik’s most ancient burial grounds.

We’ll share eerie tales of well-known phantoms like the Deacon of Dark River, extraordinary Icelandic beasts, the 13 Yule Lads or Icelandic Santas known as Jólasveinar, and Grýla, their infamous child-eating troll mother.

You will also be introduced to the art of Icelandic sorcery (specifically, how to rouse the undead).

With the long, dark winter nights in Iceland, storytelling has always been a fundamental source of amusement. Remarkably, approximately one in every ten Icelanders publishes a book in their lifetime, a testament to our deep-rooted love for weaving tales. Trust us, this spirited walk adorned with a plethora of stories will not disappoint.

Fun and interesting! - Matthias was an awesome guide! He told us about all the folklore and legends in Iceland in a fun and interesting way. It was the perfect thing for us to do right after arriving in Iceland! I learned a lot of things I would’ve not otherwise known, that made the rest of our trip more enjoyable.

Stories about elves, troll's and ghost - We did a tour during our visit to Reykjavik and really enjoyed it. Our guide Einar Steinn was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He answered all the question and even played out some of his stories which made it even better. I highly recommend him for your tour if you make it to Iceland someday. Well worth it.

A fun tour through Icelandic history and folklore - This is a good tour to learn the folklore of Iceland. There is some overlap with the Walk With a Viking Tour, so you may not want to book both if you are looking for unique tours. Our guide, Paul was very knowledgeable about the history and folklore of Iceland.

Highly Informative and Fun Folklore Tour - The Folklore Walking Tour with Stefan was one of the highlights of my first trip to Iceland. I went home and wrote down some of the things he said in a notebook so I wouldn't forget them. It's also a nice (and brisk!) walk through parts of Reykjavik a tourist wouldn't normally see. The elf rock and the cemetery tour were my favorite parts. Stefan could recite some folk tales and parts of sagas from memory, and hearing snippets in Icelandic helped me understand their power. He is an excellent performer who also fields questions well. I'd recommend taking this tour before going to the National Museum, because it clarifies some of the exhibits there. I hope to do the Viking tour during my next visit.

Wonderful walk and tour guide - It was a lot of fun to walk around and hear about the local legends and myths. Our tour guide — who should have been cast on Game of Thrones! — is a living legend himself, with a super interesting life and experiences. Thank you!!

Disappointed but with a good guide. - I was expecting to hear about elves, troll (and ghosts). There was only a passing mention. The tour guide was excellent but this was essentially a tour of old Reykjavik. I would change the name of the tour. Very disappointed.
