Great day out - Booked this excursion through our TUI Rep at our hotel TUI Blue Lindos Bay. With a pick up at the hotel scheduled for 07:30 we got up and having crammed an early breakfast in our mouths, waited outside. To be fair the coach was pretty much on time and took us off up to Rhodes town. On arrival we were greeted by our guide who, frankly spoke English so we’ll we thought him to be English! But, raised on Symi but now living on Rhodes it transpired he is very Greek. Clear explanation as to the days program he took us to the Sea Dreams catamaran where prior to boarding we had the inevitable photo snapped with two ‘knights of St John’. Once on board the craft was clean and comfortable and, away we went. Bar and snack service was available as, later, we’re our photos if we chose to buy them. We first visited Symi town mooring in the harbour and taken on our way by our guide using earpieces we’d been issued to explain some of what we were seeing. The guide did an excellent job telling us of the islands history and how life once was compared to today. We visited a sponge shop to look at what is harvested from the seas locally and of course, had the Opportunity to buy one or two. We were then realeased on free time to stroll, eat and drink prior to returning on board. The limited outdoor space on the catamaran inevitably started the ritual non queueing of various nationalities who gathered in a mass near to the gangplank or barging past those of us who were patiently queuing to board! I never really get my head round this need for competitive entry on boats, buses or indeed buffet lines! Our next stop was at the monastery which is a lovely sight and full of interesting objects. A small shop also provides welcome refreshments which are also strangely inexpensive relatively. Ladies - there are a selection of loan shawls to cover your shoulders prior to entering the church. So, following the final stampede of the day back on to the catamaran (some even lurked by the shut gangplank for 30 minutes before boarding) we set off back to Rhodes. Compliments to not only our guide but also the ships crew who were courteous and professional at all times. On arrival back at Rhodes - on the bus and dropped off around 6pm - a long day but good value for money excursion.

Symi great, the boat busy and hot. - Ran on time, Symi island lovely but the monastery a bit of a waste of time. Bring a hat, sun cream and make sure you get a seat early when the boat leaves each stop if you need it. Gets very hot inside and out. Could definitely do with fixing the air con. It’s only a matter of time until someone passes out from the inescapable heat. We are in our 30s with no kids so was ok but saw others suffering.

Cattle market - Complete cattle market. Far too many people crammed onto a boat. No consideration for people who have actually queued to get on, staff just let people run aboard like animals. Let people lie all over the place taking up seats from people who need them. Just zero organisation. Wouldn’t mind if I was jumping on a bus, but at 80 euros a head it’s a bit of a joke. Toilets didn’t have working handles aboard either, they fell off when you tried to use them. Only saving grace was the tour guide. Very knowledgeable and pleasant guy. A shame because Simi is a beautiful place, I would just suggest visiting a different way.
