Super informative and fun - We did the hell's gate experience a few weeks ago and we really enjoyed it! We started with a guided tour around the geothermal area. The tour was really interesting and our guide Liam was amazing. He was able to give us tons of information about the area through both an Indigenous and scientific lens which we loved. He was really funny as well, we had a family with three kids on our tour and he was able to keep them engaged and entertained the entire time. The tour went for a little over 2 hours and ended with a carving session which added an additional 30 minutes. The carver Luuk was super lovely and you could really tell that he enjoyed what he was doing. We then went onto the mud bath and spa, you have 20 minutes in the mud pool. There's containers of mud on either side of the pool you're in, and you're able to put it on and then wash off. From there you go into the different hot pools and have great views of the geothermal valley. Overall the entire experience took around 4 and a half hours, so I would allow this amount of time. Whilst I liked the hot springs, the geothermal walk was the highlight for me and the guides and carvers definitely made the experience.

Engaging, informative, relaxing and well worth a visit. Highly recommend. - Choose the package. Walked the Geothermal Reserve with a guide, carving and Mud Pool and Spa. Kids 12 and 10, were engaged and interested. Guide Luke, was both humours and informative. Highly recommend getting the guided tour. We were there for four hours and thoroughly enjoyed everything. Well worth a visit. Well done Hells Gate Team.

Amazing Experience! - Hell's Gate is an amazing experience showcasing the incredible geothermal wonders Rotorua has to offer. The staff were lovely from arrival. The guided tour was incredibly informative and talked not only about the pools themselves but the cultural significance of the area. After our walk we thoroughly enjoyed soaking in the mud spa and sulfur spas. We left feeling relaxed and refreshed! Would highly recommend Hells Gate for both a geothermal walk and a bathing experience.

Hell's gate, an incredible experience! - Great place to go, worth every penny. The entire package is definitely worth it!. If you get Luke as a guide, you really are going to have fun, and learn a thing or two. And if you are really nice to him, he may even tell you where the naughty tourists are buried!. Just kidding! Or am i? Relaxing, informative and incredible scenery. Worth the money. Enjoy!.

Guided walk, mud bath and sulphur spa - A guided walk followed by mud pools and sulphur spas, with 2 adults and 3 kids aged 11-13. Our guide, Te had a genuine love for the park and its history that he shared throughout the walk. An incredible contrast between boiling mud and majestic forest, definitely check it out.

Spiritual, cultural, awe - I wish I remembered our tour guides name, his grandfather passed down beautiful stories about their tribes and culture. He shared them with us with such empathetic compassion and empathy around the Mario culture. Although I'm from Australia, my whanua migrated here in new Zealand first; this tour guide was happy to answer my questions I had about our ancestors and bloodline. He went above and beyond, encouraged me to look into both sides of my tribe as my grandfather was adopted, he took the time to help me figure out which tribe he may be from. Although the tour had finished our tour guide expressed the stories of the carvings at the front of hell's gate entrance, his grandfather did the carvings himself; it's worth listening too. I'm in awe from the experience, I feel grounded and would pay the $105 any time. You are paying it to experience history, appreciation of the ancestors land, the benefits of the pools and an overall spiritual awakening. Thankyou for an incredible day

Wonderful family experiance - Such a unique and interesting experience. Our guide was wonderful and told us lots of story’s his grandfather had passed down to him. The fact that our 8yr old son stayed interested for the whole tour shows how good it was for all ages & how great our guide was. The mud bath was incredible & left our skin feeling incredible. We would do this again in a heartbeat.

Enjoyable walking tour and fun at the mud baths - Our tour guide T was knowledgeable and entertaining with his facts and stories that made it an enjoyable walk around the giant thermal wonderland. Lots of great picture pints and opportunities for videos. We then went to the spa and mud baths with our kids and they really enjoyed it. Warm shower available after the mud baths in addition to regular bathroom showers. The smell on suits and skin wasn’t terrible. Might linger for a day but didn’t stink us up too bad. I rented a suit for $5 along with rented towels. Rest of the boys just wore their suit bottoms. I almost didn’t do hells gate because some of the negative reviews but so glad I didn’t listen so posting to make sure others try it!
