Additional Information

The authentic cultural night at Mitai Maori Village includes a traditional Hangi feast cooked in earth’s womb. Watch warriors donned in age-old attire as they sail an antique canoe. The weaponry display, Haka, and the elegant poi dance are utterly mesmerizing. Delve into the intricate details of carvings and ta moko (body art). Be awestruck by the holy Fairy Spring that gushes right from the ground, and appreciate our glow worms in their indigenous environment. The experience is potent, extremely engaging, and unforgettable.

  • Wheelchair accessibility is limited for the ‘bush walk’ - exit into the forest is via stairs. Viewing of the waka (canoe) is from a platform and you can go a short distance into the forest to view the old pā (village) and see the sacred spring below the forest. Unfortunately, you will not see the glow worms. (Note: there is some uneven surfaces).
  • Please note there is a small walk through the forest which has some steps and uneven ground in some areas

Different and interesting - The warriors entering on the waka was my aunts favourite part and my cousin will always remember the chiefs call during the performance.

A great opportunity to learn about Maori culture and enjoy a delicious meal - Two of my family members were not particularly keen on me signing us up for this experience, but they ended up loving it! We were also thankful we participated in this on our first full day in New Zealand, because it gave us good insight into Maori culture, which is so fundamental to the country, before heading out to experience both islands.

A memorable cultural night - We really enjoyed the presentation showcasing the dances, music, instruments of the Maori. Fascinating. The meal was very good. We also like seeing the youths in the boat but felt that the pathways were not adequately lit as we made our way in a huge group to the stream area . We felt a little unsure in the dark of our way and would like to recommend a few more lanterns at trail height so no one stumbles and trips especially where there are stairs or elevation changes. We were disappointed that we did not see any glowworms that night. Too bad.
