Highlights
  • Old Road Bay - Old Road is an old fishing village. In this area is a well know seafood restaurant, Sprat Net and a fish market. A short distance away your guide will drive off of the main road close to one of the health centres into the area of Wingfield Estate. You’ll pass the Petroglyph of the Amerindians.
  • Romney Manor - As you drive past the Romney Batik (Caribelle Batik) get a slight glimpse of its gardens enroute to the forest.

A short distance from Romney you will begin to see the pathway of the forest. Here you will disembark the vehicle and the guide will give a briefing and issue walking sticks. As you begin your two hour walk (one into one out of the forest) the sighting of the Green Vervet Monkey and various species of birds will be seen along with the different types of flora.

Sometimes the monkeys stay out of sight especially at certain times of the day.

The tour guide will introduce you to some of our medicinal plants/trees such as Trumpets Bush, Black Sage & Sour Sop just to name a few whilst trekking through this exotic part of the forest. Some of our plants and trees have grown in height and thickness with lush buttress roots e.g. Citrus, Saman, and Locus Trees.

This tour is suited for persons of medium physical level (level 3 out of 5). One should be able to walk up hill, through narrow paths, over stones, small rocks and have no physical challenges. If uncertain it is always best to contact the supplier before booking.

A light snack of pastry and beverage will be served prior to departure for your hotel or port.

Great time for all - Great time. Hike was almost 2 mile loop but our 7 year old had no problem with it! Be sure to have some water with you during the hike. Tour guides took us his home afterwards and gave us homemade banana bread and drinks! We loved it!

Over the top without a Zipline! - We enjoyed our trip through the rainforest. Our guide was very informative; he had grown up next to the forest and spent lots of time playing there as a child. He shared stories from his childhood experiences, pointed out characteristics of different plants such as healing properties, food options, and sound capabilities (ficus). He even disproved the movie myth of Tarzan swinging on vines. Afterward, he shared raisin bread and passion fruit juice made by his family! Ask about St. Kitts’ national alcohol……

Something for Everyone - For lovers of nature, history, herbalism or distilleries, this is the right tour! We soaked up all we could learn, enjoyed the time hiking in the rainforest, and walked away with a new appreciation for natural medicine. Our knowledgable guide had so much to share. We were pleasantly surprised with the "extra" things he went out of his way to show us. This half-day tour is a good option for those who arrive by ship. The timing allowed us a few remaining hours on shore near the port to explore/shop/dine on our own.

Great nature walk - recommended - Mr Rogers fitted in this rainforest walk for us at short notice and we were so glad it was possible. He was relaxed, chatty and put us at ease, adapting the tour to our particular interests (my husband is a naturalist). We walked through the rainforest for more than three hours as he pointed out fruit and nut trees, butterflies and evidence of the local vervet monkeys. It was fascinating to hear about the use of the plants, knowledge which is still held largely orally and which he has learned from older community members and family. The impression came over of a living pharmacy that people would walk into to get the cures they needed - some still used by older people today. It was quite different from the UK woods that we know! This was a manageable walk over rough paths, and we chose to climb a steep bank to the ridge (an easier alternative was available). I was grateful for the advice of an earlier reviewer to take the offered stick for the walk. We ended up with a welcome glass of cold juice and a tasty coconut pastry treat before being taken back to our meeting point in the open-sided buses used on the island. If you are averagely/reasonably fit and into nature, this tour is highly recommended. It is on the same site as the zip-wire experience if you fancy an overhead view of the rainforest as well! (completely separate tour) We did not but others were buzzing past overhead and having a great time by the look of it.

Beautiful hike - We were lucky to have the Owner who took good care of us on this trip. Our ship docked at a different port and he had people at both ports looking for us. Then we found out he was our tour guide as well, once we were gathered up with everyone. At any rate it would be considered an easy hike if you are in shape and I would say it was a moderate hike for me (not in shape) there were a few times my daughter helped me over a long (darn short legs) etc. The tour was beautiful!

FIVE-star walk and tour guide - This Rainforest hike/tour was top-notch, starting with the taxi ride from the hotel. My 18 year old son and I went to St. Kitts by ourselves, and I hoped we wouldn’t be disappointed, or feel unsafe. Let me tell you...this is the tour you want to feel safe and have a life-long memory. To start with, the open-concept taxi was enjoyable and as interesting and educational as the incredible hike itself. The ride to the Rainforest was filled with natural beauty, culture and interesting facts along the way were given to us. We were fortunate to have an A+ tour guide, Nickhail. We couldn’t imagine having anyone else, as his intelligence, intellectualism and socialization made this tour most memorable. We saw numerous monkeys and learned so much about the rainforest. Thanks again, Nickhail! Best wishes to you! May you set sail on your 2-year adventure soon! Come stay with us in Wisconsin, if you ever get a chance! Our door will always be open to you! I recommend this tour guide to EVERYONE. You won’t be disappointed.

Educational Rainforest Tour - Our party of three was picked up at the Marriott Hotel and dropped off at the Botanical Gardens at Romney Manor which just happens to be where batik fabric is made by hand and turned into brightly colored clothing and accessories. Our young guide (28 years old) was extremely knowledgeable of all living things (plants, trees and animals) in the forest, We all assumed he was a college graduate but it turned out that he learnt forest ways from "his elders". I wish I had recorded some of the folk remedies he told us about!

Best Excursion of Our Entire Cruise! - We had a great time on our private guided tour of St. Kitts and the Central Forest Reserve National Park (the St. Kitts Rainforest). Our party consisted of my adult daughter, my nine-year old granddaughter, and me. We were transported from the cruise port in an open air safari Jeep. Nikhail, our guide, was incredible knowledgeable about all of the plants in the rainforest and regaled us with many interesting stories about the history and culture of the island. While the hike is not overly strenuous, it is a good idea to take the walking stick offered and to wear walking shoes. My granddaughter enjoyed the adventure of fording the small streams. The total distance of the hike is about 2 miles round-trip. At the end, he even played his guitar for us and served us an authentic St. Kitts pastry treat and lemonade. He provided transportation back to the port and another chance to see points of interest along the way. This was an amazing and memorable experience for all of us - the highlight of our cruise excursions. We strongly recommend this tour as a way to see some of the sites that make St. Kitts special and to give visitors a look at the island's beautiful scenery and travel along its scenic coastline. Hint for cruise passengers: When leaving the ship, be sure to go the information desk in the terminal building and look for the hand held sign: TROPICAL TOURS/VIATOR. They will connect you with your tour driver.

Rainforest Trek - This trip was wonderful. Our guide Nick took us on a 2 hour hike with just two other people. He was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. He also helped me through the more difficult parts of the hike. Be sure to use the walking sticks provided. Highly recommend this excursion.
