Highlights
  • Gyeongbokgung Palace - Constructed in 1395, Gyeongbokgung Palace is often called the Northern Palace due to its location being the furthest north compared to the nearby palaces of Changdeokgung (Eastern Palace) and Gyeonghuigung (Western Palace). Gyeongbokgung Palace is considered the most beautiful and remains the largest of the five palaces. Closed on Mondays. Replaced by Changdeok Palace without prior notice.

  • National Folk Museum of Korea - At the National Folk Museum of Korea, you can explore the Korean Life Passage (from birth to death) to gain insight into past and present Korean life in the permanent exhibition hall. The museum celebrates the first full moon of the Lunar New Year, Jeongwol Daeboreum. Despite its name, the museum is more of an exhibition of ‘Korean Lifestyle.’ There are 12 zodiac animals in front of the Folk Museum; find out which one represents you.

  • Insadong - Insadong is the ideal place to explore numerous galleries, restaurants, ceramics, handicrafts, and souvenirs at reasonable prices. The restaurants here mainly specialize in traditional authentic food. Insadong was once a residential area for palace officials, royal families, and the noble class.

Stroll along Insadong street, and you might come across “Dragon Beard”—a type of high-quality cotton candy for kings. The process of making it involves transforming dough into 16,384 fine strings that resemble beards.

  • Namsangol Hanok Village - Opened in 1998 on the north side of Namsan Mountain in the heart of the capital, Namsangol Hanok Village features five restored traditional Korean houses, a pavilion, a traditional garden, a performance arts stage, and a time capsule plaza, making it an ideal spot for both locals and tourists to enjoy a leisurely walk. Upon entering through the front gate, visitors can experience traditional life while escaping the hustle and bustle of modern city life. The traditional garden with its pavilion and houses creates a serene atmosphere against the backdrop of the forested Namsan Mountain. A time capsule commemorating Seoul’s 600th anniversary was buried in 1994 at the village’s highest point and is set to be reopened in 2394, four hundred years later.
  • Namdaemun Market - Established in 1964, Namdaemun Market is the largest traditional market in Korea, offering a variety of goods. All products are sold at affordable prices, and the stores also serve as wholesale markets.
