Highlights
  • Plaza 9 de Julio - Take a vehicle tour around Plaza 9 de Julio, where you’ll find the Cabildo and the Cathedral Basilica of Salta. This tour is rich in history and cultural insights, making it the perfect starting point.
  • History Museum of the North - Learn about the Salta Town Council with historical facts, architectural details, notable events, and its significance to the province of Salta.
  • Cathedral of Salta - The Cathedral Basilica of Salta is not only an architectural marvel but also a symbol of faith for pilgrims visiting this particular church. The sanctuary houses the images of the Lord and the Virgin of the Miracle, the patron saints of Salta, who attract thousands of devotees every September 15 to renew the Pact of Fidelity.
  • Convento San Bernardo - This stunning colonial-era building is one of the oldest and most iconic in Salta. Its impressive carob door, hand-carved by natives in 1762, is a notable symbol. Originally constructed in 1586, it became the “San Andrés” hospital in 1726 and later a cloistered convent for “Las Carmelitas” nuns. It was declared a National Historic Monument on July 14, 1941.
  • Basilica Menor San Francisco - Located in the heart of downtown, this iconic church is just a few meters from the main square. The current basilica, dating back to the 18th century, was built by Fray Vicente Muñoz and later enhanced by architect Luis Giorgi. Its Italianate style and terracotta, ivory, and white colors make it an architectural gem.
  • Monumento al Gral. Martin Miguel de Guemes - Situated at the end of Paseo Güemes and at the base of San Bernardo Hill, this monument honors gaucho hero Martín Miguel de Güemes. Inaugurated in 1931, it was constructed using rocks from San Bernardo Hill. Every June 17, the city celebrates with parades and the “Guard under the stars,” where gauchos gather for traditional bonfires and music.
  • Cerro San Bernardo - This municipal nature reserve stands 1,454 meters above sea level and is a biodiversity hotspot. Its native trees and rich birdlife make it ideal for bird watching along the 1070 steps to the summit. IMPORTANT: We ascend by vehicle (combi or minibus), not by cable car!
  • Monumento 20 de Febrero - This monument commemorates the Battle of Salta and the victory in defense of independence. It took 100 years to complete, evolving from a brick monument and wooden cross to its current form, delayed by war and civil conflicts.
  • Quebrada de San Lorenzo - Visit the Quebrada de San Lorenzo to experience the splendor of the Selva Montana, a jungle that stretches 250 kilometers from Tucumán to the Bolivian border. This natural wonder has inspired songs and poems.
  • Mercado Artesanal Tradicional - Conclude your tour of Salta at the iconic Artisan Market. Built in the early 19th century, the mansion features a large gallery where various stalls sell crafts and regional products.
