Highlights
  • Salzburg Private Tours - We will pick you up from your hotel or any location in the city of Salzburg

  • Mirabell Palace and Gardens - On this stop, we will explore the beautiful Mirabell Gardens, where the grand finale of Do, Re, Mi was filmed. We will also show you the Pegasus Fountain, Dwarf Garden, Hedge Tunnel, and the steps where Maria and the kids finished Do, Re, Mi.

  • Salzburg Marionette Theater - If you love The Sound of Music, you will know this fantastic puppet theater (operating since 1913). The Salzburg puppet theater is the oldest continuous theater of its kind in the world. The Lonely Goatherd and the puppet scene in The Sound of Music were inspired by this theater.

Sound of Music Film Connection:

This is what inspired one of the most memorable scenes “The Lonely Goatherd”

  • Pferdeschwemme (Horse Well) - This iconic monument fountain, built in the 17th century, was used as a horse wash in former days. It was also featured in The Sound of Music.

  • Felsenreitschule - Built in the 17th century as a riding school for the prince archbishops of Salzburg and transformed into a theater in 1925. This is the location where the Von Trapps performed Edelweiss and won the Salzburg festivals during The Sound of Music escape scene.

  • Mozart Bridge - Built in 1903, the Mozart Bridge is the oldest bridge over the river Salzach in the city of Salzburg. In The Sound of Music, Maria and the children cross the bridge while pointing during the instrumental end of “My Favorite Things” before they skip along the grassy riverbank.

  • Stift Nonnberg - The oldest abbey north of the Alps (714 AD) was featured several times in The Sound of Music. Only the exterior of the abbey was used in the movie. Inside shots were done in a studio.

  • Salzburger Altstadt - We leave the city of Salzburg driving south to the German border. Your private guide will explain the history of the city of Salzburg and how, for many years, it was an independent principality ruled by the Catholic Church. The importance of salt and how it influenced the growth of the city will also be discussed. Other points of interest will be explained en route to the next location.

  • Leopoldskroner Weiher - Here we stop for a view over the lake to the Palace Leopoldskron. This beautiful rococo building was used as the back of the family house in The Sound of Music. The boat scene was filmed here, and it used to be the home of the original gazebo.

  • Schloss Frohnburg - Stop and take a short walk to the 17th-century Palace Frohnburg. These are the gates where Maria arrived hopping, swinging her guitar, and singing “I Have Confidence” in The Sound of Music.

  • Schloss Hellbrunn - Walk through the filming location

  • Marktschellenberg - Enjoy spectacular views (weather permitting) at the location where Maria was spinning in the field during the opening scene of The Sound of Music while singing “The Hills Are Alive With The Sound Of Music”.

  • Eagle’s Nest Bus Departure Point - On our way to the Obersalzberg bus terminal, we will have a couple of great picture stops. Your private guide will show you where everything was located between 1933 and 1945. Places such as the Berghof grounds, entrance to the bunkers, SS barracks, and much more. After giving you a mental picture and spatial orientation of the mountain, a scale model at the bus terminal will help you understand where everything was located.

  • The Eagle’s Nest - Visit the Eagle’s Nest with your private guide. From the Eagle’s Nest bus terminal, you will board a specially equipped mountain bus for a breathtaking ride up the 4-mile road, with its 27% incline to a rocky plateau. From there, we will walk through a 406 ft (124 meter) long tunnel, leading us directly to the original WWII brass elevator that will transport you up through the heart of the Kehlstein mountain for another 406 ft, straight into the Eagle’s Nest itself. After a tour through the Eagle’s Nest, you will have some free time to enjoy the view or have refreshments.

  • Rosewood Schloss Fuschl (2024) - Former hunting lodge built in 1450 by Prince Archbishop, Schloss Fuschl is today a luxury lakeside resort.

  • Red Bull Headquarters - Home of the most famous energy drink, enjoy beautiful architecture.

  • Basilika St. Michael - Visit “The Sound of Music” wedding basilica.

  • Mozartblick - Enjoy beautiful views above Lake Wolfgang and the town of St. Gilgen. This is the area that was shown during the opening scene of The Sound of Music. You also have a view of the Schafberg where Maria and the children took the train up to the picnic meadow.
