After crossing both borders you will meet your driver and Guide and drive to one of the historical and beautiful city Panjakent in Zerafshan Valley.Panjakent is a city in the Sughd province of Tajikistan on the Zeravshan River, with a population of 33,000 people. It was once an ancient town in Sogdiana. The ruins of the old town are on the outskirts of the modern city. The Sarazm Important Bird Area lies
downstream of the city on the tugay-vegetated floodplain of the river.

Penjikent is a historical city situated in Tajikistan. It serves as the final Sogdians’ ancient city from 5-8cc AD in Zerafshan Valley with a rich historical past, located along the renowned Great Silk Road. It was destroyed during the Arabs invasion in 7-8 cc AD. Known as the birthplace of Rudaki, the premier esteemed modern Tajik poet of the 10th Century.
In this single-day journey, you’ll explore Ancient Sarazm (a world heritage site classified by UNESCO, dating back to the Bronze Age- 5500 years), the remnants of ancient Panjakent, the local marketplace, and a tour of the Rudaki museum.

Highly recommend - We took a day trip to Penjikent. It was a wonderful experience. Our guide was able to pass on to us his love of his country, which is so rich in the history of civilisations. The scenery in the mountains was breathtaking.

Interesting run-out to Tajikistan from Samarkand, visiting the excavation of the ancient city of Penjikent, etc. - Very good day-trip from Samarkand to Penjikent Tajikistan to see the town, visit the Rudaki Museum, look at the historical excavations, and have a Tajik lunch. The driver in Samarkand picked me up at my hotel and was on time, as were the driver and guide in Tajikistan. You have to walk a bit to cross the international border, but that was an interesting break. The excavations are of the settlement of Penjikent, dating from the 5th to 8th centuries AD. My guide was quite knowledgeable. And my driver back to Samarkand was there early to take me back to my hotel. I tried to book a similar trip with Trip Advisor, but the minimum participation is 2 people--why? I am so glad I found this from AdvanTour for just me. No complaints about this excursion.
