- Samarkand - Our journey begins in Samarkand, from where we’ll travel 40 km to the Dzhartepa checkpoint at the Tajikistan border.
- Maschidi Markazii M.bashoro - This main mosque of the city, crafted by skilled artisans, features numerous handmade details. The ceiling and columns are particularly stunning, and the minaret mimics the brickwork of the Samanid Mausoleum in Bukhara.
- Central Market Bazaar - Located in front of the mosque, the Central Bazaar offers a glimpse into local social life. Be sure to buy some dried apricots, a specialty of Tajikistan.
- Archaeological Museum of Ancient Penjikent excavations - This ancient city, destroyed by the Arabs, is a rich source of pre-Arab wall paintings. The frescoes discovered during the Soviet era are now a significant part of the Hermitage Museum’s collection. From the hills, you can view the entire city of Penjikent, which beautifully blends local villages with Soviet-era multi-story buildings.
