Highlights
  • San Antonio de Areco - Just an hour’s drive from Buenos Aires on National Road 8, the expansive Pampas plains unfold before you. Upon reaching San Antonio de Areco, you find yourself in the heart of Gaucho culture.

  • Parroquia San Antonio de Padua - Culture and history enthusiasts should begin their visit at the main square, Ruiz de Arellano, which houses the parish of San Antonio de Padua. Here, you can learn about how the first Spanish conquistadors used noble materials imported from Europe, like wood and floor tiles, to start building the city around 1730.

  • Boliche de Bessonart Bar - Opened over 200 years ago, El Boliche de Bessonart pub features a sloping facade reminiscent of the Tower of Pisa, period render, an unusual roof, and two main rooms that have helped it endure through the years.

  • Municipality Of San Antonio De Areco - Built in 1885 and purchased by the town in 1966, the town hall, located opposite the parish, is a colonial mansion that once belonged to one of the wealthiest families in town. Visitors can admire its large interior patio, period tiles, old well, and wrought-iron grids.

  • Museo Draghi - This museum showcases a private collection that traces the evolution of silversmith styles in Argentina from the 19th century to today. In Mariano Draghi’s workshop, you can see unique pieces inspired by traditional techniques.

  • La Olla de Cobre - The artisanal chocolate factory La Olla de Cobre is famous throughout the province. People from Buenos Aires often travel to San Antonio de Areco specifically to purchase their delicious chocolates and renowned alfajores. It’s a must-visit for gourmets.

  • Museo Gauchesco y Parque Criollo Ricardo Guiraldes - The Ricardo Güiraldes museum offers various insights into Argentina’s past, particularly regarding the gauchos: their customs, equipment, and livelihoods. It also delves into the life of the writer Ricardo Güiraldes.

  • Estancia El Ombu de Areco - With your guide, you’ll visit an Estancia located 15 minutes from town in the middle of the Pampa plains. After a brief tour of the Estancia and a horseback or carriage ride to explore some of the 400-hectare property, you’ll enjoy a delicious asado lunch under the shade of century-old trees.

You’ll then have the opportunity to watch and admire the Estancia’s gauchos demonstrate their equestrian skills, as well as enjoy traditional Argentine music and dance.

Outstanding Day - Away from Buenos Aires - This was such a memorable day! Had a wonderful tour of San Antonio de Areco. So many local artisans applying their skills. Then out to a wonderful Estancia, where we were treated to empanadas, wine, and a full BBQ lunch. Loved the live music through lunch. We rode horses, and were amazed at the horse whisperer, who gently and acrobatically positioned himself around the horse. It was an impressive show. Julieta was a wonderful guide for the day. Be prepared though for the drive to the town from BA, and for the welcome committee of mosquitos. Still, would highly recommend this day, as it will be one of your best in Argentina.

Great trip to Gaucho ranch and BBQ feast - Adrian was our driver and Pierina was our English speaking guide. Adrian is a careful and safe driver pointing out different features during the trip.Pierin gave a delightful narrative of the town and gaucho ranch, accompanied us around the ranch and helped us get comfortable mounting the horses. The horses are well trained, and delightful to ride. The ride on the pampas was about 40 minutes and a must do even for those who never rode a horse before. The Gauchos are very encouraging and caring. The meal was fantastic. Savory and accompanied by Malbec wine, great beer, or other beverages. The folk dance was a great time even as a participant. My wife and I enjoyed this trip emenvely!

Great value, well organised and full of interest - What a great day out! Adrien our driver picked us up promptly for the 90 minute drive out of town where we were met by our guide Facu whose excellent English, detailed local knowledge and sense of humour meant that we had a really engaging walking tour of the town before driving out to the ranch. There, we had a really generous barbecue meal, a short horse ride, a gaucho riding display and a traditional music show, all of which we enjoyed. Overall, great value! Recommendations are to wear long trousers and long sleeves if the mozzies are out, and to arrive there hungry!

Beautiful day in the Pampa - We were picked up from the hotel by car and the driver took us to San Antonio de Areco. There we were met by our guide Juileta. She led us through the small town and we were able to visit two silversmiths and a small leatherwork factory. Our guide also told us a lot about the life of the gauchos on the estancias today. After that we went to the Estancia El Ombu. After a short tour you could either ride a horse or take a ride in a carriage. For lunch there was a typical asado with plenty of meat and wine. Our highlight was the subsequent performance of traditional dances and the horse whispering demonstration.

A highly recommended day tour from Buenos Aires - We are very satisfied with our trip. We were taken with a private comfortable car to San Antonio de Areco and back. The town and its gaucho crafts were very interesting. The estancia is excellent - horse riding was fun, the food is really great and the dancing and the horse performance are just the cherry on top. Above all, this experience was made really great by our tour guide Julietta. She is fun, knowledgeable and helpful. We had a great time and appreciated her company very much. Highly recommended!
