Our experience: Don Juan - Coffee and Chocolate Tour, will take you to know the entire Coffee process, from the seed to the delicious cup of coffee.
Once the coffee tour is finished, we will start with the sweetest part of the tour, the delicious chocolate. Like coffee, we will talk about the entire Chocolate process, from the seed to the delicious chocolate bar and we will end up selecting some members of the group to grind the cacao beans and make their own chocolate bar. Once finished you will have the opportunity to taste several types of chocolate such as Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate and White Chocolate.
One of our main features is the infrastructure we have, since the Arenal Area is well known for having a very changing climate, it goes from being very sunny and humid to heavy rains, even with a electric storms on some occasions, that is why that 100% of our trails are protected and made of cement, which will allow to enjoy the tour on sunny or rainy days. Beautiful tour! - This tour ended up being even cooler than I had hoped! Our guide, Didier (sorry if I spelled that wrong) was super knowledge both about the chocolate-making process, but also about the wildlife around the farm. In particular, he was an expert on frogs, and helped us find and get pictures of all three of the most iconic rainforest frogs in the area (including some great shots of the green/red-eyed frog in the photo for this tour :) ). We got to see a sleeping hummingbird, as well, which was very cool! Perhaps the wildest part of our tour was when a mama sloth was hanging out in the trees of the farm with a baby on her belly - absolutely magical experience that the staff did a great job managing so that the sloth wasn't disturbed (the respect for the wildlife was clear and built into everything they do). The chocolate-making was also super fun! We got to walk through the process and end up with two chocolate bars each to take home with us. (And even more chocolate and coffee once we hit the wonderful gift shop.) All in all, a magical night!

Unforgettable - What an experience! Our guide was knowlegable, fun and patient. Just as excited to find animals as much as us. We enjoyed seeing the chocolate making process from fruit to molding it with our own hands. He helped us take video/pictures thru his telescope of the animals. Got to a sloth, bats, frogs, snake, lightning bug and others. Would highly recommend this.

Sampling and sloths - Our guide was very informative and pointed out a lot of really neat things on this walk both animals and plants. We brought out 3 yo with us and he had an absolute blast. He loved seeing all the animals especially the mama and baby sloth. He enjoyed making his own chocolate and getting to sample the rest. We would definitely do this tour again.

This was an amazing experience! - We arrived for the tour just as it was getting dark. Our tour guide, Alex, spoke great English and he was amazing! He spotted sloths, bats, red-eyed tree frogs, an iguana, a Jesus Christ lizard, and a number of other creatures. Alex brought along flashlights for us to use and a scope which he helped us take pictures through. He was very knowledgeable and lots of fun. The chocolate demonstration was fascinating and we got to make our own chocolate at the end of the tour. Alex also gave us a brief history of Costa Rica which was very informative. If you are interested in seeing the night critters, I highly recommend this night tour. If you are more interested in the chocolate process, you may want to book the day tour when you would be able to see things better. Either way, I highly recommend Don Juan and the tour guide, Alex!

Best Night Tour in La Fortuna - I decided to take this tour as an extra after a day of Ziplines and Hot Thermal Springs, and I am so glad I did. This tour is very unique as the tour guide mixes in the unique aspects of the Costa Rican Cocoa frming with wildlife. We started off picked up at the Don Juan store down town and it was a short 7 minute bus ride to the cocoa farm. Flashlights are provided by the tour guide. I can say I was lucky to have a private tour that night as no one else booked it. I got to see them roast coco beans starting off and tasting the rich chocolate in it's natural shell (It was bein processed and tasted great). We then moved on into the cocoa fields going through the steps taken in cocoa preparation (including fermentation and grinding). Then at the end I got to taste a few unique cocoa drinks that don't find in Walmart, the cocoa tea I had 3 cups (it was that good), I also had what was called the 'Drink fo the Gods'. We then continued going nature searching deep in the back of the farm where I got to Sloths, snakes and many frogs in the wild. We concluded the tour with a stop at their gift shop before I was taken back to town. I highly recommend this tour. (NOTE: The pics I posted are stills from my GoPro cam so they are not the best but will give you an idea.
