- Venado - Tour begin from la fortuna to The Venado Caves are approximately 35km east of the town with the same name and about 45 minutes away from La Fortuna, San Carlos.
You can head deep into the bowels of the earth on this amazing expedition. Underground trails and passages will take us through several different caves to explore a world indifferent to the light.
With lanterns to illuminate our way, as well as the necessary gear, we will enter this labyrinth of ancient underground rivers and sea beds, now exposed after millions of years. We will visit formations such as”the papaya”,” the coral “,” the altar “, and “the birthing canal”, as well as stalactite and stalagmite rock formations that are common inside the caves, some of which hang from the rocky ceiling and others emerge from the ground. Large colonies of bats inhabit the caverns, as well as frogs and crabs.
At the end of the tour you can enjoy a delicious snack of fresh fruit.

Great experience for a real Costa Rica adventure - Booked a day in advanced no problem. Guide messaged for pickup location and we opted to meet at the caves due to it being a shorter drive. We went on a Monday morning and had the cave to ourselves. Joshua, our guide was great, he was friendly and easy to understand, as well as having a great sense of humor and knowledge of the caves. We were encouraged to go through the narrow openings while in the cave which made the experience much more fun. I’m 6’3 180lbs and had no problems. If you enjoy your rice and beans just make sure to stretch beforehand, as you will be low crawling and scooting around through small areas. We were provided with refreshments afterwards as well as towels and a place to shower. Bring a change of clothes. I did not bring my phone but had my go pro on a head mount which worked great. If you bring your phone I suggest getting a waterproof bag for it, as you will be crawling on hands and knees and the water level changes day to day.

Gonzalo Guía was a very... - Gonzalo Guía was a very knowledgeable and amazing tour guide. It was my first time ever doing something like this. But, he made it and enjoyable and fun experience. Would definitely recommend!

Cave exploration - This was an absolutely fantastic experience. Definitely glad I choose to wear the rubber boots, as you can choose to use your own sneakers. I did not get as dirty as I thought I would, but still best to bring a change of clothing, just in case. The group I was in was very small, which honestly, added tremendously to my enjoyment of the experience given the tight spaces and how humid it will become in the caves.
The guide was incredibly friendly, shared his knowledge of the caves, and made sure everyone had a good time.

Get wet. Get dirty - awezome! - Aaron set a leasurely and safe pace through an amazing cave experience. Get dirty, crawl really low and learn about history and geology on this excursion . Bad knees, don't go. Claustrophobic? Maybe skip. Up for something different, this is for you.

Cave Hike - Amazing, what an experience! - The cave hike was amazing. We did not know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. Our Guide Gonzalez was very good! He took pictures of us at different points, on our phone.
We had a rental car and didn’t need to be picked up. We thought we were booking directly thru the owners of the Venado Caves but no. You can save money by booking directly thru them.

Awesome experience - Awesome tour of the Venado Caves. We had a blast. Our guide was friendly & knowledgeable. He took photos for us during the excursion. We felt 100 safe. You do get down and dirty. There are some tight spaces, but you can opt out. Showers are provided at the end, along w/delicious snack. Bring water shoes & change of clothes. Transportation picked us up right at our Airbnb in Fortuna. Had an awesome time. Highly recommend!

It was a highlight of our trip, and exceeded our expectations - Our tour guide and driver were amazing. The guide Aaron took in to account our abilities and preferences when choosing which parts of the cave we would explore. On the ride up he was very knowledgeable about all things Costa Rican. Our driver also spotted a sloth and stopped so we could have a look and get some amazing pictures

Many animals - I was lucky enough to go on this tour by myself . The guide was awesome . Very knowledgable and interesting . The caves had some tight spots but they manageable . Cool to see many different animals. Humming birds, Cane frog , racer snake, Spiders, huge Crickets, catfish and many , many bats. Very interesting tour.

100% recommend - The caves were awesome. The guide was very informative. We seen lots of wildlife, insects, and bats. 100% recommend for others. The trip in from La Fortuna was very beautiful as well.

More EXTREME than expected - I’m not sure I was actually prepared for what was in store. I read “moderate activity level” needed and thought “yea I can do that”. It was HARD! I was sweating, out of breath, scraped up. Was it worth it? Yes. Am I glad I did it? Yes. Would I have done it knowing from the start what I was getting myself into…undecided . Our tour guide was amazing and couldn’t have been more helpful or knowledgeable.
