Additional Information

This listed tour will guide you through the vibrant local culture of Tijuana, its diverse scene, and its inhabitants. On this outing, you’ll get to experience Tijuana like a local in just a few hours. Located 30 minutes away from Downtown San Diego, California, Tijuana is home to 2.3 million people, about 75% of whom are foreigners. However, everyone is welcomed in Tijuana! Literally, Tijuana was built by outsiders and has flourished thanks to tourism since the prohibition era. The city presents an incredible food and craft beer scene unlike any other Mexican city. This awakening of food and craft beer culture has driven a cultural revival throughout Baja region. Tijuana has been a stepping stone for many people in pursuit of the American dream, whether by legal or illegal border crossings into the USA. This results in people being left behind, forcing them to settle down here or go back to their original homes. In most cases, they establish their new lives here.

Day well spent - This tour was so much fun! Diego met us and was really engaged getting to know everyone, although he would only be with us a short while to cross into Mexico and then handoff to Humberto. Humberto was great, really knowledgeable about his city and took time to really explain things to us. I felt generally safe the entire time. Tijuana was fun, and all the people we encountered were friendly. Heads up— if you go on a weekend and do not have global entry, you will be waiting 2-3 hours to walk back across due to it being the weekend and more people traveling so plan accordingly! I would definitely recommend this tour and look forward to doing more in the future!

A welcome to Tijuana - We were well looked after. Diego walked us quickly from our meeting point in the U.S. to the Mexican side of the border where Carlos met us. Carlos shared his knowledge of and passion for Tijuana. Besides buildings both new and historic, we had time to sample tequila, local sweets, craft beer and some delicious tacos. We also had time to purchase a few items to remember our pleasant and informative afternoon. Carlos looked after us well from start to finish. This was a great introduction to Tijuana and northern Baja California.

Toe-riffic Tijuana - Everything was well-coordinated. It was easy to get to the pick-up point where Diego met us. He walked us across the border where we were met by Carlos. Carlos shared his knowledge and obvious love for his Tijuana as we took a walking tour of the city. He adjusted the pace to meet our needs. We enjoyed sampling tequila, local sweets, tacos and craft beer. We even were able to buy a few items to remind us of our pleasant introduction to Tijuana and northern Baja California. There are buildings dating a century back to prohibition days in the U.S. and modern structures as well. We only had an afternoon free and this was a pleasant way to spend it. Be aware that this is the busiest border crossing in the world. We had no waits walking into Mexico but it can take an hour to walk back into the U.S. Even the return was interesting.

Teen friendly adventure - I had been to Tijuana myself a few times but wanted to bring my 14 yo daughter for her first time to Mexico and felt safer having a guide. We walked across the border and had a great day with excellent lunch and my teenager felt safe and well taken care of being in a new environment for the first time. Our guide was great and we saw many great spots downtown.
