Xunantunich and Barton’s Creek Cave - Fabulous Day! - Our family of 4, including two adult children in their 20s, loved our 7-8 hour combo tour yesterday with Elio. Elio picked us up at our hotel in San Ignacio. It was an approx 20 minute drive to Xunantunich. We spent a few hours with Elio learning about this incredible Mayan site. Elio took us up to the top of the temple (many of the steps, especially at the top, do not have railings and can be steep and slippery- wear good shoes, not flip flops!). Three out of four of us are not especially interested in archaeology, but we were all fascinated by this complex. There are no explanatory signs on the grounds - only in a small exhibition center - so I highly recommend hiring a guide. After approx 2 hours at Xunantunich, Elio drove us approx 45 minutes to Barton Creek Cave, where we went for a leisurely canoe ride inside the cave for a little over an hour. We never could have gotten here on our own (last 4 miles requires higher vehicle, and Elio put his truck into 4 wheel drive twice to drive us through somewhat wide creeks). Elio also brought a wonderful homemade lunch made by Carla, the owner of St Leonard’s Tours (thank you Carla). Our daughter also went on a 2 hour horseback ride with St Leonard’s Tours. She said it was one of the best 3 tours she has ever taken.

Give Carla a Raise - Carla, Carla, Carla. Carla is the absolute best. We went horseback riding, to Xunantunich and tubing through Jaguar Paw cave (which had freakin’ vampire bats!). On our horsebacking journey, Juan assisted Carla in guiding us. I found this particularly helpful as I have an ankle issue and couldn’t keep my foot in the stirrup. Later we visited the Mayan ruins at Xunantunich. Carla was knowledgeable and enthusiastic in explaining things. She also took pity on our poor heat tolerance and went at a slow pace. Before we made it to Jaguar Paw she fed us a delicious home made lunch. And finally, she took us tubing. And by tubing, I mean she literally towed us down the river. My friends laugh, but one of my highlights from our 8 day vacation, was getting to chat with Carla throughout our journey. It was a fantastic day!

One of my favorite adventures - We got a whole horse riding lesson, rode all the way to Xunantunich, and saw a lot of birds and howler monkeys during the ride. Our guide in Xunantunich was excellent, very knowledgeable, and they got us in there first thing in the morning before many other people were in and before it got very hot. Walking around the site when the sun was coming up over El Castillo was just awesome! There was some kind of issue with the van that they had planned to take us to cave tubing, but they were able to find another really nice van pretty quickly. We were served a tasty homemade lunch at the cave tubing location and then went on to the cave. The water was a little cold, but... we got to leave our tubes on the side for a bit to walk around and swim through the cave. Our guide, same one as in Xunantunich, told us about the plants on the way and the bats in the cave. He also told us about the Mayan myths about the caves. A couple of people in our group were not super outdoorsy, but he even managed to make them comfortable. Overall we had a great experience and would recommend it highly, maybe even do it again if we were in the area. :)

Best tour ever!! 10/10 - I'm so glad that we picked this option of 1-way horseback ride to Xunantunich and then cave tubing. Carla was welcoming, kind and amazing. We had a great time riding through the farm and along the river even though we had little (or no) riding experience. Carla also cooked our lunch which was probably our favorite meal of the trip. Oscar was our ruins/tubing guide and he was incredible! He is an avid birdwatcher and we loved listening to all of his knowledge of local birds and he even pulled over on the side of the road to spot some distant toucans because we were really hoping to see them. The cave tubing was unreal and we even got to walk around, swim and even jump off some small rocks into the water. SUCH A BLAST!! Would highly recommend. Do yourself a favor and book this tour now!

Best tour of the vacation - We had an absolute wonderful day. Carla was our tour guide during the horseback riding tour and did an amazing job. she also cooked us lunch which we consider to be one of the best meals during our trip. Elio was our guide for the Xuantunich and Cave tubing tour. HIs enthusiasm for what he does and for sharing his expertise and love of the Mayan culture and the cave was great. He would stop and share the different plants and nature. We got to taste termites. To see howler and spider monkeys as well as a tarantula. Amazing day!!

What a great day! - This tour was awesome! Horse back riding through natural trails in Belize and then topping it off with an epic adventure like cave tubing hands down had to be one of the most exciting excursions I've ever had. Our guide José was friendly and very knowledgable about Belize's nature. And to top it all of Mrs.Carla made a delicious traditional Belizean lunch .
