Great hikes in less traveled parts of Hokkaido - I had a great time with Chris at Trekmate Hokkaido. I was doing a long solo trip around Asia and I wanted to go hiking in a remote area in Hokkaido. Other hiking tours had strict schedules that would have made it hard to fit into my trip. It would have been really hard to go solo as public transportation is complicated and cabs are expensive. Chris put together a great custom schedule for the exact dates I was going to be in Hokkaido. We did a three-day tour and went up the Tokachi-Dake, Mt Oakan, and Mt Meakan. I was picked up at my hotel in Sapporo by Chris in the Trekmate van. We drove four hours directly to the first trailhead. I was very impressed by the level of preparation. Chris brought several food options, and we had the unique experience of eating at the summit! That night we slept at an onsen/hostel. The next day we camped at a campsite. During the hikes, I enjoyed how Chris explained the geological history of the volcanoes and he pointed out local wildlife. I highly recommend this experience if you are looking for a custom hike in Hokkaido that includes transportation.
