After an hour-long journey with picture breaks through the impressive Dordogne valley landscapes, we’ll arrive at Rocamadour. Situated in the Alzou canyon, this thousand-year-old Unesco site is steeped in history. On this private guided tour conducted in English, we’ll share with you the folklore behind this hallowed location. After making our way down the main boulevard, we’ll ascend the grand pilgrim’s staircase of 216 steps to the sanctuary and its chapels. Here you’ll explore the chapel of miracles and its black virgin, St. Amadour’s sarcophagus, and the legendary Durandal sword. On our return, we will traverse the rugged landscapes of the Causses du Quercy, where you may elect to have an additional visit to: - an active medieval fortified watermill (open from April to October - supplementary charge: 6€ per person) OR - the Byzantine-Romanesque church in Souillac (open all year - no extra charge) OR - a medieval village in the Dordogne valley, either Domme or La Roque Gageac (open all year - no extra charge)
