Monkey Forest Savannakhet - The sacred forest of Ban Dongmouang is home to more than 300 rhesus macaques. These monkeys are considered sacred by local villagers who protect them. The monkeys are accustomed to the presence of people and you can walk through the forest safely, seeing them in their natural habitat.

Hotay Pidok Library ຫໍໄຕສະຫວັນນະເຂດ - Hotay Pidok Nonglamchan Library

This peaceful temple houses an impressive wooden repository built over a pond by Abbot Lak Khampa. The repository protects some 403 traditional Lao manuscripts carefully wrapped in colorful cloths and kept in ancient cabinets.

ອ່າງເກັບນ້ຳ ສູຍ - Soui Lake, sometimes called ‘the sea of Champhone’, is the biggest reservoir of Champhone District and is used for irrigation This allows two rice harvests per year. You can taste local fish and the famous snails of Soui in one of the floating restaurants. With extra time, take a boat tour through the lotus fields as you eat.

Visit Wat Taleo Old Temple and Turtle Lake where you can feed the endangered giant soft shelled turtles

in the early morning before hiking through the forest where you’ll have an additional chance to see the Eld’s Deer

For those interested in immersing themselves in local customs and experiencing Savannakhet’s cultural and wildlife attractions, we’ve combined the Xe Champhone Homestay with a visit to the Eld’s Deer Sanctuary. This 3-day, 2-night journey allows you to encounter a wide array of wildlife including macaques, soft shelled turtles, endangered Siamese crocodiles, and Eld’s Deer. You’ll also have the chance to spot the 100+ bird species indigenous to the region.

The journey offers an opportunity to reside and dine in a traditional village homestay, while engaging in local activities of your choice like preparing desserts, creating marigold temple offerings, observing the famous Lao rice whisky making process, or indigo dying. A peaceful, secluded night camping in the National Eld’s Deer Sanctuary is also part of the package.
