Highlights
  • Gunsan Oreum - Gunsan Oreum is one of the largest hydromagmatic volcanos in Jeju with layers of volcaniclastic sediments. Rising to 334.5 meters above sea level, it has a spectacular panoramic view including Hallasan Mountain, Jungmun Tourist Complex, Marado Island, Gapado Island, Sanbangsan Mountain, and a beautiful southwest coastline. For this reason, Gunsan Oreum is a good place to have a fantastic sunrise or sunset view. The two horn rocks at the summit rise like the twin peaks of a dragon’s head through which Hallasan Mountain is viewed. Let’s take a short mild hiking for 30 minutes as Samdal did in search of herself! - Gapado Island - Gapado Island is 10 min. away from the main island of Jeju by ferry. Viewed from the sky, it looks like a stingray swimming under the sea. It’s said that the name, Gapado is derived from “Gapari” meaning a stingray in the Jeju language. About 177 people from 93 households live on this small flat island. One or two hours of walking is enough to see the whole island where quiet barley farms, 133 dolmens, wall paintings on pretty houses, the “Wish Observatory” on the 20.5-meter high amount, and stunning views of Song-ak Mt., Sanbang Mt., Hallasan Mt. and the southernmost island, Marado Island. In April the island is very busy with tourists enjoying the Green Barley Festival every year. You’ll be surprised to find out the stone where Yongpil was sitting and crying in the middle of the green barley is actually one of the 133 dolmens! - Jeju Island - Horn Conch Park: Horn Conch Park is one of the best spots for a glow of the sunset in Jeju where Samdal took a photo. It is also one of the best spots for dolphin watching as a sign shows on the road “This is home to Jeju Dolphins” by Shindo-2ri village and Hot Pink Dolphins, an NGO for Jeju Dolphins. Currently, about 120 Jeju dolphins live around Jeju. The village and Hot Pink Dolphins members cooperate to protect them by campaigning and holding events in July. Standing on the observatory you may want to stay here for more than an hour waiting for Jedori, Chunsami, and Sampari to show up to make a big happy jump right in front of you! - Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road - Singyemul Park, another name for Shinchang Windpower Coastal Road, is one of the best driving courses in Jeju. Singyemul means “newly discovered spring water” which was used for baths. In the sea farm around the park fries of expensive species are kept. Let’s stroll out toward the sea in full emotion. But don’t worry. The point where Yongpil snatched Samdal from the rising tide is closed due to repetitive submersion by the seawater. - Jeju Island - Myeongwol Elementary School was a learning center and playground for the children of Myeongwol-ri village for nearly 40 years from 1955 to 1993. After the school closed down, it was often used only for village events. In 2018 Youth Association of Myeongwol-ri village and other members came together to transform the 70-year-old school building into a gallery and cafe. The Coffee Classroom sells coffee, tea, desserts, and ‘nostalgic stationery snacks,’ evoking nostalgia for those days. In the Gallery Classroom, you can admire paintings depicting the scenery of the school. In the drama, the gallery exhibits a picture of Yongpil’s mother and Samdal’s mother. You may sit on the rainbow tires in the playground like Yongpil!
