Highlights
  • Shanghai Science and Technology Museum - Shanghai has long been known as the “Shopping Paradise” and the “Oriental Paris.” It’s not just about shopping in high-end malls, but also about bargaining in markets and discovering treasures in antique shops. Here are four popular markets recommended by local shopping experts: Fabric Market (for tailor-made clothing), Tea Market (offering various Chinese teas from across the country), Off-Brand Market (selling textiles, footwear, pearls, bags, handcrafts, etc.), and Antique Market (where you can find genuine antiques from thousands of years ago).

What you can do in the markets:

Fabric Market: This market features hundreds of tailor shops, each with its own specialty. Some are better for making suits and coats, others for silk, and some exclusively for leather and leather jackets. You can bring photos or magazine images for fashion ideas, and they will replicate them exactly. If you haven’t prepared, don’t worry; they have a selection that represents the available styles and plenty of ideas to share with you.

Tea Market: Here, you can taste three different types of tea and learn about their quality, benefits, and history. A tea expert will help you choose the tea that best suits your body.

Off-Brand Market: Find handcrafts, bags, sunglasses, art, T-shirts, pearls, and more. Everything is made in China with excellent quality.

Antique Market: You might find genuine antiques here if you have a keen eye. Otherwise, practice your bargaining skills! Your shopping guide will offer advice and prepare you ahead of time.

Great time touring Shanghai on a "Food & Fabric" tour with guide Cindy! - Spent a great half-day in Shanghai with tour guide Cindy from Shanghai Advisor on a "Food & Fabric" tour. The day started with a stop for warm soy milk, sounds questionable, but was really delicious. Later we had a variety of dumplings at a little local shop and later enjoyed a tea ceremony. Because two of our group love to sew, Cindy included a couple of stops to various fabric stores. She had arranged for our group to be picked up at our hotel and was very helpful in locating a taxi at the end of the tour to go to our next destinations. We enjoyed our time with Cindy so much that we booked a tour the next day to visit the Watertowns, we we also very much enjoyed.
