Gobustan Rock Art - On the way to Gobustan, you’ll see a vast array of oil rigs that supplied the USSR with oil for over 70 years. Your first stop will be the Gobustan Museum to gain deeper insights into the area’s history. The archaeological site is located 56 km from Baku. Artifacts and rock carvings were discovered here in 1939-1940. Researchers have recorded over 3,500 human and animal paintings and various petroglyphs, and identified 20 suburban shelters. Mesolithic monuments are prominently displayed in the reserve. The area features many caves and springs, with carvings by primitive men on the walls of caves, rocks, and stone lumps.

Mud Volcanoes - The tour continues to the Mud Volcanoes, located near the Gobustan National Museum. Transportation will switch to Soviet Lada cars. Guests can bring strong plastic bags to collect some mud, which is said to be beneficial for the skin. Azerbaijan has the highest number of mud volcanoes in the world, with about 300 found on the shore, in the sea, and on islands. You’ll have the chance to see these active volcanoes up close. After spending 15 minutes around the volcanoes, you’ll be transferred back to your car.

Bibi-Heybat Mosque - The Bibi-Heybat Mosque houses the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, and serves as a spiritual center for Muslims in the region. It is a major monument of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan, locally known as “the mosque of Fatima.” Alexandre Dumas described the mosque during his visit in the 1840s. The old mosque was located in the southern part of the tomb, with a 20-meter high minaret in the west. Later, a crypt and two niches were added to the mosque. Inscriptions on the niches mention Fatali Khan, whose tombstone marble slab is now in the State Museum of History.

Ateshgah - Fire Temple - Visiting the Fire Temple will reveal why Azerbaijan is called the land of fire. The 17th-century fire temple and a hill that has been burning for four millennia are key attractions. The driver and guide will pick you up from the hotel and drive directly to the Fire Temple, located 30 km from Baku in the southeastern part of the Surakhani settlement on the Absheron peninsula. Ateshgah is a fire temple built in the 17th-18th centuries on the site of natural gas flames. The earliest building dates back to 1713, and the central temple was built in 1810 by merchant Kanchanagara. It was sanctified by Zoroastrians, Hindus, and Sikhs at different times.

Yanardag State Historical, Cultural and Natural Reserve - After the Fire Temple, your last stop will be the Fire Mountain. This natural burning flame is due to natural gas emerging at the foot of the hill. The hill has been burning for approximately four millennia, even in rain and snow, with gas roots extending to the Caspian Sea. Yanardag Mountain, also known as Burning Hill, has had natural gas ablaze for hundreds of years. You’ll enjoy the view of Yanardag, the infamous burning mountain. In ancient times, natural eternal flames burned in many places on the Absheron peninsula. Yanardag was declared a State Historical-Cultural and Natural Reserve to protect this natural monument.

Shamakhi - Gabala - Sheki

Juma Mosque - On the way from Baku to Gabala, we will visit the Juma Mosque in Shamakhi, also known as the Friday Mosque, a popular tourist attraction. The mausoleum’s architecture harmonizes with the picturesque surroundings of rocks and greenery. It is a masterpiece of the Shirvan architectural school and a beautiful creation of ancient masters. The monument is government-protected.

Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum - At the foot of Gulistan Fortress lies the Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum, or “Seven Domes,” named for the seven gravestones in the crypt. This is the burial site of notable Shirvan Dynasty rulers. Today, the gravestones appear as half-destroyed stone domes emerging from the ground in a deserted graveyard, creating a mysterious atmosphere.

Nohur Lake - Nohur Lake, located near the Gabala-Ismayilli-Baku motorway, is a natural attraction visited by international and local tourists. It is 5 km east of Gabala city and about 200 km from Baku. The lake is surrounded by the Yumuru, Goydag, and Gulluburun mountains. It is 1925 meters long, 1355 meters wide, and covers an area of 240 hectares. The maximum depth is 24 meters, and the water volume is about 16 million cubic meters. The waterfall is completely frozen in winter, making access difficult, but in spring and summer, tea houses are available on every mountain road. Guests can enjoy tea with traditional Gabala jam. At the highest point of the waterfall, there is a tea house with a special wooden mattress where you can drink tea with the pleasant sound and scenery of the waterfall in the background. Sheki Karvansaray - The “Caravanserai” historical complex in Sheki consists of two magnificent caravanserais, “Yukhari” and “Ashaghi,” meaning “Upper” and “Lower” in Azerbaijani. These caravanserais date back to the 18th-19th centuries. The “Lower” caravanserai has a rectangular shape with a large inner yard and a pool in the center. The total area is 8000 square meters, with dimensions of 55x85 meters. Four entries lead to the yard from all four corners of the building. There are 242 rooms in the lower caravanserai.
