Highlights
  • Wat Phra Singh - Wat Phra Singh is one of the most famous and most attractive temples within the walled old city of Chiang Mai. The temple, which is also known as “The Monastery of the Lion Buddha” is an active temple, with many monks and novices living there.
Wat Phra Singh dates back to the 14th century when Chiang Mai was the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, and is one of the finest examples of classic Lanna style temple architecture.
  • Wat Phan Tao - Wat Phan Tao is one of the oldest temples in Chiang Mai. The temple’s first structures were built probably in the late 14th century. Located within the old walled city, just next to Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phan Tao is well known for its exquisite Lanna-style ‘viharn’, the ordination hall, entirely made of teakwood on a stone base.
  • Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara - Wat Chedi Luang, also known as “The temple of the Great Stupa”, is an impressive temple ruin. The construction of the temple lasted from 1391 to 1475. Although the temple collapsed in 1545 due to an earthquake, it was for centuries the tallest building in Chiang Mai.
The massive and very impressive chedi (pagoda) dominating the area is its most prominent feature.
Wat Chedi Luang is also famous for once housing the Emerald Buddha, one of the most important religious relics in Thailand, which can now be found in the Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.
  • Wat Lok Molee - Just outside the old walled city center of Chiang Mai, Wat Lok Molee is one of the city’s older temples. The temple that is also known as the Wat Lok Molee houses one of the largest and most impressive chedis in Chiang Mai.
The massive chedi was built in 1527 when it must have dominated the area. The chedi contains the ashes of several Kings of the Mengrai dynasty, who ruled the Lanna Kingdom from the end of the 13th century until 1558 when the Burmese invaded the Kingdom.
  • Night Bazaar - Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is the most famous market in Chiang Mai, and one of the top tourist attractions in the city.
This night bazaar consists of street-side stalls selling mostly clothing and handicrafts.
You will also find a wide range of (street)food and snacks at the market. It is here where we will enjoy a simple meal and a dessert.
After that, it’s time to say goodbye to your guide. You can take a tuk-tuk back to your hotel (not included) or further explore the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar on your own.

OK except for the night market, but not quite the right thing for us - With two tuktuks we went to different temples of the city and our guide explained everything worth knowing, even the atmosphere in darkness was very special and beautiful. In front of each Attraction a family photo was taken, which was just too much for us. Unfortunately, we didn’t like the ending at all, instead of trying a specialty at a local market, we were pressed into our hands at an extremely noisy Touri market (which we paid for in advance with the price of the tour), with which we were supposed to choose a street food meal ourselves at one of the little shops. It was noisy as hell, absolute tourist stronghold and we just took some 0815 Pad Thai. We were happy when we got out there and went out to eat properly afterwards. Too bad, but in contrast to a fantastic tour in BKK, there are significant reductions here. For the nice tour guide and the temples at night, which you can not find so quickly alone yet just 4 points.
