Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - Early morning departure for Sigiriya (around a 5-hour drive) to climb the 5th-century Sigiriya rock fortress. Dambulla Cave Temple - Following lunch, visit the Dambulla rock temple, constructed by King Walagambahu in the 1st century B.C. and recognized as a World Heritage Site. It is the most remarkable of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. The complex consists of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and ceilings, making it the largest collection of paintings in the world. It houses over 150 images of the Buddha, including a colossal 14-meter figure of the Buddha carved out of rock.
