Highlights
  • Sitka - Sitka’s Bald Eagle Center operates with bird care professionals assisted by volunteers to rescue birds, provide them with rehabilitative care and hopefully release them back into the wild. After your introduction to the center, a presentation with one of the Center’s educational birds will take place. Time will be available to view the flight center, clinic window, outside deck habitat areas and gift shop.

  • Sitka National Historic Park/Totem Park - Next, you’ll visit the Sitka National Historical Park, where the 1804 “Battle of Alaska”, was fought. The park hosts totem lined trails, cultural exhibits and carving rooms where native Alaskan artisans demonstrate their totemic art form. Walk the nature trail, view cultural exhibits and video presentation, or talk with local native artists about their cultural art form.

  • Sitka - The final stop is visiting the Fortress of the Bears, which allows you get within 25 feet of Alaska’s brown bears in a naturalized setting. You will enjoy observing 3 populations of bears from a covered viewing platform and interact with an experienced naturalist. After the bear tour, you may disembark on the main street to shop or be returned directly to the tender pier.

Sitka highlighted - We had a great and timely trip. Our group of nine was from age 5 through 72. The youngest remembered all the plant tastes and smells. Well done and great for the price.

Very Informative! - I learned a lot of information about the bears living in Alaska. I enjoyed watching the brother and sister bears play/fight. It was also great to see eagles up close and to learn about how the facility was helping rehabilitate them.

Love the Bears - Our van driver, Flo, was very knowledgeable and fun to be with. Enjoyed the Bears and Raptors. The totem part wasn’t that great, but we appreciated Flo for who she is as a native of the area.

Bears OMG, bears and eagles - Nice excursion. Seeing the bears up close was amazing and a real treat. They feed the 2 brown bears while we were there and they stood on their hind legs to catch the salmon. The other bears were happily lounging, not pacing back and forth as I have seen in zoos. They appear very content to live at the fortress. 5* I highly recommend and the money you pay helps keep the fortress going to help the injured eagles and bears.
