Highlights
  • Sóller, the bustling hub of commerce and culture in the Sierra, invites us into its main square. It’s an ideal spot to sit on a terrace, observing the San Bartolomé Church and the Banco de Sóller building. Both are the creations of architect Joan Rubió, a protégé of Gaudí, represented by the façade of the church with a rose window carved from stone. Sóller, celebrated as the birthplace of modernism, houses a rich history within its streets and structures. The preserved colonial-style estates and palaces share the tale of the 19th and 20th-century Majorcan merchants who accrued wealth from trading oranges in France, and the declaration of King Alfonso XIII that Sóller is the city and economic cultural hub of the region.
  • Puerto de Sóller, a natural port nestled within mountains, filled with various activities and attractions, and offering spectacular views. The Port of Sóller, majestically located in the Sierra de Tramuntana, was once the trading heart of the area and a much-desired possession of past pirates and bootleggers due to its significant maritime history.
  • The iconic Sóller wooden train transports us through the stunning views of the Sierra de Alfabia in the Sierra Tramuntana and the Valley of Sóller. The scent of orange blossoms, olive trees, the alluring natural environment, and the sea, added with tunnels, towering mountains, lush forests, and sweeping vistas that result in a truly remarkable journey.

Well worth the Journey! - A lovely way to travel from Soller to Port Soller. Through the town of Soller then the orchards and countryside and finally into the lovely bustling Port.

An authentic timeless parenthesis - Don't take a train or tram if you want to go quickly. If you want an experience that is out of the ordinary, go for it! Port de Soller is cute as anything

Port of soller - Went to port of soller excursion with train ride and tram very good however due to people being late it meant we hardly had any time in soller so people who are more than 15 minutes late should be left behind meaning we have more time at our places

Excellent Island Tour: Train: Tram: Boat and Bus Magnificent - Contrary to some negative comments (probably justified), for us, my wife and I, were enchanted by this excursion around the island including the bus, followed by a small old-fashioned wooden train, then picked up by tram also in the old fashioned way with crossings of magnificent countryside that we sometimes forget by car... then dropped off at the port of Soller where we board a boat to follow the northwest coast (partly ) with magnificent views of this wild coast. Arriving at "La Calabra", ideal free time to eat and stroll to discover, after passing through a pedestrian tunnel, landscapes, each as sublime as the next, as well as the "Torrent de Pareis" (unfortunately dormant at this time). period) ..., but, only beautiful and no less magnificent cliffs. Have your heart set for the return, climb then descent from the top of the cliffs with super tight turns (well worth the rollercoaster) guaranteed effects 👍. Congratulations to Mihai our driver (pilot) of the day and a very very BIG thank you to Viviane our guide (to be recommended) The very good weather was there, everything allowed us to have an excellent day. Personally, I recommend

banal - excursion too fast and unattractive. Basically the train route is banal, the city is nice, but there are better ones in Majorca. The port of Soller and the tram to get there are beautiful. Out of 5 hours you spend 45 minutes in Soller and the same amount at the port........the rest by train and bus.

Give the tram a miss! - Enjoyed the experience on the historic train. Ours stopped for a photo opportunity but, apparently, not all of them do. The train has been beautifully restored and maintained. The journey lasted about an hour. Maybe give the tram a miss! Crowded, not very comfortable and not a particularly picturesque route until you reach the port. We couldn’t believe how rude people were trying to force their way onto the tram in front of people who had been waiting longer. One rather large woman even said, ‘No’ to me as I attempted to board behind my husband and pushed her way on instead! The port itself is lovely and well worth a visit but, if I was going again, I’d catch a bus from Soller to the port. A number of restaurants along the promenade. Soller town Places to eat and drink in the square. A wedding was just ending in the church in the square. A number of us waited for the wedding party to leave and then went inside as we’d been told it was worth a visit. We were sent out by a woman who told us the church was closed.

Waste of time & money - Unfortunately can only give 2 stars. We were picked up from Santa Ponca & taken to Palma to change coaches. All went well & we were kept informed by the guide with clear instructions. However it went downhill as the new guide was not clear with any instructions, she started giving information about various areas but couldn't be heard & we didn't even know she'd started. We arrived at Sollier and she told us we had 20 mins to go to the toilet, walk around & grab a coffee. Barely enough time to do anything. Having then arrived at the meeting point at the allotted time we were told by the tram driver we had to wait another 15 mins for the tram. The guide was nowhere to be found & we had no idea what was going on. Utter chaos as we didn't even get seats as promised. More chaos when we arrived at the train station, as we had less than 5 mins to visit the toilet, guide told us to stay put while she found which carriage we had then suddenly she was boarding & everyone was moving forward, again no info. The Orange train was worth going on though. On the coach back the guide mumbled and couldn't be heard. All through the trip all of the customers were having to ask each what was going on. Not worth the money and next would make our own way there for a lot less money. Chaotic, uninformative and a waste of time & money.

High expectations dashed by reality. - On paper this sounds like a great day out: a one hour journey in an old woiden train through majestic scenery to a pretty (crowded!) town, and then an equally quaint old tram down the 3km to the coast at Puerto Soller. The train was full, the scenery indeed stunning, the sun shining. Soller is pretty enough, but was rammed. Port Soller was cafes, bars, a beach, restaurants, and a marina. Limited charms. The fun begins when you want to return to Soller….along with an unruly crowd of hundreds of others, all jostling to get on the small trams. There is no queuing system…every man for himself. And priority is given to organised tour groups. We were in the mob for 90 minutes, and a scheduled tram (supposedly every 30 minutes) failed to arrive. That wee tram was overcrowded going up the ascent. Worse was to follow at Soller itself. A train had broken down in a tunnel, so there was another 60 minute delay. It turned out to be a long and frustrating day. And this not even in high season!

Never again - Never experienced anything like this before. Pure tourist trap. Excellent driver and guide, but the concept is totally wrong. Spent a whole day in different - albeit authentic - means of transport, no time to visit Soller or Porte Soller, but an hour and a half dropped in Calobra, where there is nothing to do and where my food flew into the garbage bin after two bites. Maybe this works for certain people, but you don't do this to a European traveler!
