Bachkovo, Plovdiv and Asenova is a great destination - My wife and I used the guide/driver services of Traventuria, and were very impressed with the professionalism of the company and the high quality of Meto, our driver/guide. Bachkovo Monastery rivals Rila Monastery in many ways. Plovdiv has an interesting old city and impressive Roman ruins. Asenova Fortress ruins have a dominant location and it is relatively easy to climb to the top. This is a must-see area of Bulgaria.

Plovdiv was lovely, a mix of the ancient and the modern I highly recommend it to anyone who likes history or just wants to see some cool stuff. I really enjoyed the monastery too, with its serene atmosphere and living history. Definitely go on this tour - it's worth every stotinki :

Plovdiv is a beautiful city with an interesting history and is a must see when travelling Bulgaria. Bachkovo Monastery is also beautifully set in a wooded valley and is well worth seeing. Bachkovo Monastery had its feast celebrated on the day but the very good guide we had got us in from a side door avoiding the queue. It was rather chaotic but should be quieter on other days.

It turned out to be a private car tour... -
It turned out to be a private car tour - 3 guests and the driver/guide Martin who was very good. Picked up from hotel and dropped back - full day tour some free time ..... weather was bad but that's not the tour company fault and I fell down on the cobble streets in the rain, again not the tour company fault - not a good tour for hard of walking though - recommended

Lovely to see the old city of Plovdiv... -
Lovely to see the old city of Plovdiv and was obviously easier to take the transfer as part of the tour than make our way there. We did feel it was a little over priced as we would have liked more historical depth in the tour and although the monastery was pretty it was a little underwhelming. Overall definitely worth seeing Plovdiv.
