Highlights
  • Bar Kontatto - Departure from Sorrento in Piazza Lauro in Sorrento at our meeting point - Bar Kontatto in Corso Italia, 257

  • Pompeii Archaeological Park - The ruins of Pompeii are a vast archaeological site in the southern Campania region, near the coast of the Gulf of Naples. Once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried under meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The preserved site features remains of excavated streets and houses that visitors can freely explore.

  • Forum - The Civil Forum represents the center of the daily life of the city, all the main public buildings for the administration of the city and justice, for the management of business, for commercial activities, such as markets, overlook it, in addition to the main places of city worship.

  • Tempio di Giove Capitolino - The Temple of Jupiter dominates the northern side of the Forum, and Vesuvius rises spectacularly behind it. With the deduction of the colony (80 BC) the temple was the subject of a radical renovation and became a real Capitolium, with the three cult statues of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, which imitated those of the Capitolium in Rome, placed on a high base, so as to make them visible to those passing through the Forum square.

  • Macellum - The Macellum of Pompeii was nothing more than the city market where people could buy food. Located north-east of the Forum, the complex had to remain out of the way from the square so as not to create too much crowding, given the high number of people who certainly frequented it.

  • Via dell’Abbondanza - Via dell’Abbondanza is one of the main streets of the ancient city of Pompeii, in Campania, which connected the Forum with the Amphitheatre.

  • Stabian Baths (Terme Stabiane) - The Stabian Baths were built at different times. The initial phase of construction dates back to the 4th BC. (the gym with the trapezoid base). The baths that we can admire today were built in the 2nd century BC, a period in which Pompeii underwent a major building renovation.
In the spa not only did people bathe, but they also discussed politics, battles, trials, women… it was the city living room where the events of the day were discussed.

  • Lupanar - The brothel of Pompeii, with its erotic paintings, is one of the best-known buildings of the excavations and had the function of a brothel.

  • Pompeii Archaeological Park - The Great Theater of Pompeii was built by the Romans on the slope of a hill; they exploited the natural depression of the mountain to create a majestic auditorium divided into 5 sectors. Tragedies from the Greco-Roman tradition were performed on stage.

  • Sorrentino Vini - Typical lunch at a typical winery on the slopes of Vesuvius with tasting of local wines

• Capocollo appetizer, salami, cheese and tomato bruschetta;
• Pasta with tomato sauce
• Sweet of home
• Tasting of 3 local wines
• Waterfall

  • Vesuvius National Park - Visit the majestic Vesuvius and get lost in thousands of colors while admiring the entire Gulf of Naples and its cities thanks to a 360° view. Reach the edge of the crater at 1,280 meters to admire a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Naples. The trail surface is uneven, but it will be worth it. Following the devastating eruption, it was named after the Roman god of flames and metals - Vulcan

Guide was great! - I can't imagine trying to see Pompeii without a guide. I had no idea how large it is and without someone along pointing out details and explaining the history, so much would have been missed. The lunch break before going to Vesuvius was lovely as it was rather hot outside and having a break at the vineyard was perfect. Walking up Vesuvius was a bit harder than I expected, but we made it - we are both "70-somethings" (my shoes are a dusty mess :)

Spacious and perfect for wine drinking - Excellent location with beautiful views. We were 3 couples and 2 singles. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms to spread out in. Pool was very nice with a beautiful outdoor area. Host responded quickly to our questions and was never intrusive on our stay. This stay definitely enhanced our Sorrento experience.

Really enjoyable full day... - Really enjoyable full day experience. Pompeii brilliant to see personally, having only seen on the TV before. Didn't realise the site was so huge. Good to be dropped approximately a mile from the summit of Vesuvius. Still a good walk to the top in the heat!

Great, interesting tour with knowledgeable guide. - This tour was excellent. The guide was an archaeologist and was really friendly and extremely knowledgeable. We felt that we saw the most interesting (to us) parts of Pompeii thanks to the guide. The actual site is massive and would take at least two full days to see most if not all of it. Lunch was a good opportunity to talk with other travellers. The climb up Vesuvius was hot and a little hard work, but certainly worth it. We were taken for a Limoncello tasting on our return which was very nice and really entertaining. Overall, an excellent tour well worth the money.

History day trip - Thoroughly enjoyed this day trip Paola and Miguel kept everything running smoothly from start to finish. Miguel’s driving was spot on and he navigated the roads with ease. At Pompeii our guide was Monica who was very passionate about the history and made sure we got to see all the good bits (6 cruise ship tours were also there in the day we visited). The lunch and wine tasting was excellent Final stop to mount Vesuvio which can be a challenging climb and we were lucky enough to have a hazy day. We did make another final stop for toilets and limoncello tasting. I would definitely recommend this day out.

History of a Volcano and the ashes left behind - Pompeii was amazing and wish we had a full day here to immerse in more of the history but alas we had other activities planned; like lunch and hiking the caldera of Mt. Vesuvius. Paola did. Great job coordinating and ensuring we had breaks, water, lunch, and of course limoncello! The heat was high the day of our tour but the amount of information was amazing. Lunch could have been better with fans to cool off. Our guide in Pompeii was great and knew his stuff! Would book him for a private Pompeii tour.

Pretty good - We really enjoyed the Pompeii tour and hike up Vesuvio. In Pompeii however the guide was obviously keen to get through his tour in the allotted time, whilst not an issue to us, we occasionally lost his signal over the headphone as he marched through more built up sections. We kept up reasonably well, but there were quite a few who struggled a bit. Getting all of Pompeii into a 2 hour tour would be impossible but I wish I'd seen the amphitheatre. We were told by the guide that the lunch would be in a family vineyard with individual family members involved in providing our meal. This gave the impression that the location was reasonably intimate but it was far from it. The restaurant had many large rooms each with maybe 200 people, it was very much a massive production set up. The meal and the service was reasonable but the ambience not quite what we expected.

Trap! - The trip was exactly how it is described however the lunch was a complete disappointment. Lunch was not as presented. It was in a restaurant and the food was boring at best. Wine tasting also was rushed and not spaced out with our lunch.
