  • Union Buildings - The Union Buildings serve as the official seat of the South African Government and house the offices of the President of South Africa. These grand buildings are situated in Pretoria, atop Meintjeskop at the northern end of Arcadia, near historic Church Square. Although not centrally located in Pretoria, the Union Buildings occupy the city’s highest point and are central to South Africa’s political life; “The Buildings” and “Arcadia” have become synonymous with the South African government. This iconic landmark is one of Pretoria’s most popular tourist attractions and a symbol of democracy.

The Buildings are the site of presidential inaugurations.

  • Kruger House Museum - Kruger House is the historic Pretoria home of Boer leader and President of the South African Republic, Paul Kruger. Built in 1884 by architect Tom Claridge and builder Charles Clark, the house was constructed using milk instead of water to mix the cement due to the poor quality of available cement.
The house was among the first in Pretoria to have electric lighting. It features original furnishings or items from the same period, various gifts presented to Kruger, and other memorabilia.
  • Church Square - Originally known as Market Square, Church Square is at the historic heart of Pretoria. Marthinus Pretorius, the founder of Pretoria, designated the square for use as a marketplace and churchyard. It was later named for the church buildings that stood at its center from 1856 to 1905. Since June 1954, the square’s most notable feature has been the statue of Boer leader and President of the South African Republic, Paul Kruger, surrounded by statues of four anonymous Boer citizen-soldiers on a lower level of the plinth.
  • Voortrekker Monument - Located just south of Pretoria, the Voortrekker Monument is a granite structure on a hilltop, commemorating the Voortrekkers who left the Cape Colony between 1835 and 1854. It was designed by architect Gerard Moerdijk.
