Highlights
  • The Mitten Buttes And Merrick Butte - First, we’ll assign you a horse based on your experience, weight, and height. Then we’ll start galloping towards the West Mitten Butte, followed by the East Mitten Butte. They are also known together as, The Mittens. When viewed from the south, the buttes appear to be two gigantic mittens with their thumbs facing inwards. If you capture the Merrick Butte at an angle you see that it’s between the West & East Mitten Buttes. All three buttes are commonly seen together in many popular films and images. Its elevation is over 6,200 ft making it one of the tallest buttes in Monument Valley.
  • Sentinel Mesa - Located northwest of The Mittens, it’s a mountain with an elevation of over 6,400 ft. Most of the mesa is in the state of Utah, but a small southern section of it is in the state of Arizona. This breathtaking mesa can be seen from the Monument Valley Visitor Center.

Great experience! - The experience was great and the guide friendly. Maybe if I had to rebook it, I would choose the 1 hour excursion instead of the 2 hours one, but just because of the landscape that is always the same. In general I was very satisfied

Awesome experience for horse lovers. - It was an amazing experience. The horses are in great shape and very sensitive to riders, slmaking you feel safe in the desert trail. The views are breathtaking and our guide was very kind. He explained a lot of things about the mountains and answered every single question we made. We recommend this tour either to non riders or to experienced riders.

Fantastic - Very nice crazy tourgides they rode themselves bareback. And what we really liked is that a lot of information was given about the environment but also about the different clans that live there and the customs they have.

A great experience - We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 hour ride. We were a group of 5 with 3 grown up children. Our guide Winton was fantastic. We are used to riding English style and the horses are Western trained. Winton gave us a quick lesson and we quickly got the hang of it. We got to see the rock formations close up from angles that you don’t see from the track. Winton also explained the Navajo legends which were really interesting. Everyone in our group had a fantastic experience and said that it was the highlight of our holiday so far. Book it, you won’t regret it!

Lifetime Experience!!! Highly Recommend!!! - Horseback riding in Monument Valley was the BEST decision of our trip! It felt like just us and our guide traversing the towering, majestic mesas and buttes in the vast expanse, as if we were in a Western movie. Our guide, Deion, was an expert rider. He introduced us to the valley's landmarks, shared the history of the native people, and gave us riding tips. We were deeply touched by the stories of how native people being forced away from their land and their efforts of returning home. Hearing the guide's narration, the echo of hoofbeats, and the wind that has howled here for millions of years created an unprecedented connection with the sacred land, an experience you can't get from a car tour or distant viewpoint. We don't have any experience of riding horses. The host would find you the most suitable horses. The horses are well-trained and obedient, so don't worry if this will be your first-time horseback riding. The meeting point is a bit tricky to find: you need to drive pass The View hotel. When the hotel (and the visitor center) is at your right hand, keep driving till the end of the parking lot and look to your left in front. You can see tents and cabins at the end of an unpaved road, and that is the meeting point. We are really looking forward to coming back again!!!

Sacred Mountain ride. - Nelson was a great guide. He was informative, skilled and entertaining. He led us over some spectacularly beautiful and undulating terrain. The horses were fresh and fun to ride. The pace was varied and at times exciting. This was a wonderful experience.

Finding Sacred Monument Tours was not easy - Be careful if you go here because the GPS is very confused. The business is located near the end of The View Campground. We actually went into their office at the campground and asked about Sacred Monument tours and they had no clue. Also cell service isn't great so we had a hard time calling in and getting directions over the phone. Once there, the visit was amazing, we did a 2 hour horseback ride into the most incredible terrain ever. I've ridden horses in a few amazing places, but this beat them all. You can see why they filmed all the old western movies out here. Our guide was great and the thunderstorm stayed off in the distance so we could enjoy the whole tour.

Very expensive, not worth the money - The scenery was amazing, the horses were too and clearly taken good care off! However, the tour was supposed to be with a maximum of 6 people, we started of with 12. We had to wait a long time in line for all of us to get a few pictures done. We started off 15 min later than planned and came back 15 min earlier as wel, so actually the tour was a 1,5 hour horsebackriding tour. The guides weren’t really interested and told us almost nothing about the area or history of the place. They were having fun with themselfs, not concerned with our experience and just riding off. It was very awesome to see them riding bareback, racing and jumping over stuff. But I am an experienced rider and all that I could do was walk in a very slow pace. Definitely not worth the amount of money we paid for and a bit disappointed to be honest. I was really looking forward to this trip and it definitely did not meet my expectations. I guess with a different guide it could be a way better experience.
