Airport or Colombo - Sigiriya

Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - Visit the rock fortress of Sigiriya, a “World Heritage Site” and the 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky,” which is perhaps the most remarkable single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock due to the enormous lion that once stood at the entrance to the Palace atop the 600-foot high rock.

Dambulla Cave Temple - The Dambulla cave temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is a World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka, located in the central part of the country. Dambulla is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka.

Polonnaruwa - Dambulla

Polonnaruwa - In the morning, visit the historical site of Polonnaruwa to see the most iconic attractions of Sri Lanka’s second most ancient kingdom, such as the Parakrama Samudra irrigation system and the statue of King Parakramabahu. Visit the royal palace, see the remains of the Kumara Pokuna marble pond, and more.

Minneriya National Park - After lunch, you will be driven to Minneriya National Park, where you will board a 4x4 for a three-hour jeep safari. You will see large herds of wild elephants there!

You will be dropped off at your hostel in Dambulla.

Dambulla - Kandy

Regent Spice Garden - En route, visit a spice and herbal garden and enjoy a 10-minute head massage.

Oak Ray Handcrafted Wood Carvings - Visit a wood carving factory.

Kandy Lake Club - Cultural Dance Show - In the evening, visit to see a traditional Kandy dance show.

Peradeniya - Kandy

Royal Botanical Gardens - After breakfast, proceed to visit the Peradeniya Botanical Garden.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - After our visit to the Botanical Garden, we proceed to Kandy, where we will visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. Afterward, check in at the hostel.

Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya - Proceed to Nuwara Eliya through Ramboda Pass, enjoying beautiful scenery at 6,128 feet above sea level with tea-carpeted hills. We stop at the Ramboda waterfall (329 feet). After this visit, we proceed to the Tea Factory.

After this visit, we proceed to Nuwara Eliya. (Nuwara Eliya, meaning “city on the plain (table land)” or “city of light,” is a town in the central highlands of Sri Lanka with a picturesque landscape and temperate climate. It is located at an altitude of 1,868 meters and is considered one of the most important locations for tea production in Sri Lanka. The town is overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka. We will take a look around the city and then proceed to the hostel in Nuwara Eliya.

Nuwara Eliya - Ella

Ella - After breakfast, we leave for the Nanu Oya rail station to take the train to Ella. Ella is a beautiful, small, sleepy town on the southern edge of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country. It’s situated in the middle of stunning countryside, with small vegetable plots in the valleys, tea plantations on the hill slopes, and forests on the hilltops. You can enjoy the picturesque scenery in the hill country.

Nine Arches Bridge - Visit the Nine Arch Bridge in Ella, which is on the Demodara loop and spans 91 meters at a height of 24 meters. The beautiful nine arches make it a very picturesque spot, especially as it is located in a dense jungle and agricultural setting. Behind the railway, a forest is booming, and below, tea leaves are being cultivated. We stay overnight in an Ella hostel.

Ella - Mirissa

Rawana Falls - After breakfast, we drive to the Ella waterfalls, a popular sightseeing attraction in Sri Lanka. It currently ranks as one of the widest falls in the country. This waterfall measures approximately 25 meters (82 feet) in height and cascades from an oval-shaped concave rock outcrop. After visiting the waterfalls, we proceed to Mirissa.

Mirissa Beach - Head to your hotel in Mirissa for a relaxing overnight stay at a Mirissa hostel.

Mirissa

Whale Watching in Mirissa with Geeth - Early in the morning, around 5 AM, pick up from the hostel. Afterwards, assist you to board the Whale Safari boat. The boat leaves Mirissa harbor for the Whale Safari at 6:00 AM. The boat safari tour takes approximately four hours (depending on the spotting of whales and the wishes of our passengers).

Once you return to shore, our driver will guide you to a beach restaurant for a delicious lunch. After lunch, you can take a walk on the beach.

Mirissa - Galle

Galle Fort - After breakfast, we will proceed to Galle. Galle is the best example of a fortified city built by Europeans in South and Southeast Asia, showing the interaction between European architectural styles and South Asian traditions. The Galle Fort is a World Heritage Site and the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers. When we arrive in Galle, we will visit the Dutch Fort, the Galle Museum, an old Dutch church, and the British church.

Hikkaduwa Beach - After visiting Galle, we proceed to see the stick fishermen who sit on sticks while fishing in the traditional way. After this visit, we proceed to Hikkaduwa, a small town on the south coast of Sri Lanka. If you like, you can go on a glass-bottom boat to watch the corals, and if you enjoy it, you can go snorkeling. After Hikkaduwa, we proceed to the Galle hostel.

Galle - Colombo

Madu River - After breakfast, we will proceed to Colombo. En route, visit the Madu River in Balapitiya for a boat ride. This one-hour tour takes you on a boat safari through the primitive depths of the mangrove marshes in the Madu River. Traverse the dark and dangerous caverns formed by the thick mangrove forests, interspersed with bright open stretches of water. Learn more about mangroves and their positive effect on ecology. Get a chance to see crocodiles, water snakes, tree snakes, and wild boars in their natural habitat. Watch the cormorants, storks, and many other avian species hunt for their prey in the swift flow of the Madu River. View the pots for catching prawns and shrimp left in some of the shallower areas of the river. Visit the old Buddhist temple on one of the islands that dot the river liberally. Stop by another of the islands, which are the source of the cinnamon industry in Sri Lanka. Purchase some fresh, high-quality cinnamon to take home as a souvenir. Make sure to visit the outdoor fish massage parlor, where you can dangle your feet into a fenced part of the river to get treated by the massage fish. You will have to pay for your ticket for the fish massage therapy.

Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project - Afterward, visit a turtle hatchery in Kosgoda. Here, these almost extinct turtles are bred and cared for. Visitors can see the newborn turtles and even participate in the process of releasing them into the sea.

You will be taken to your hostel in Colombo.

Colombo

Colombo - Explore the many influences of Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo, and see all the major highlights of this multicultural city.

Enjoy a drive around the city to see landmarks, cultural sites, historical buildings, and more. Such attractions include Galle Face Green, the Dutch Hospital, the Old Parliament Building, the Lighthouse, Colombo Harbour, the Slave Island area, the oldest kovil (Hindu temple), Sri Kailawasanathar Swami Devasthanam, dedicated to the gods Shiva and Ganesh, Gangarama Temple, an ayurvedic herbal and spice place, the War Memorial, Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre, Viharamahadevi Park, Town Hall, the racecourse shopping area, Independence Square, Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, and many more. Make sure to do some serious shopping before leaving if the budget is still reasonable. Go shopping at local creative stores.

Colombo - Airport

Katunayake - This completes the 12-day Sri Lanka itinerary. Depending on the time of your flight, you will be transferred to the airport in Katunayake.
