Highlights
  • Potter’s Wax Museum - The inspiration behind Potter’s Wax Museum came from a childhood trip to London taken by founder, George L. Potter. As a child, he was mesmerized by the life like figures and wanted to share his enjoyment with the American public.

In 1947, Potter began contracting with GEMS of London, a noted wax studio, to create one of a kind figures for his museum. Potter employed artists from all over Europe to aide in this project with the wax imported from France, hair from Italy, and the sculpting taking place in Belgium. Opening it’s doors in 1949, Potter’s Wax Museum has served as an interactive, educational and fun attraction for visitors to the ancient city.

At Potter’s, you can interact with historic figures such as, Ponce de Leon, Albert Einstein, and Princess Diana, take a picture with Michael Jordon or Angelina Jolie; or imagine you are on set with Harry Potter and “He Who Must Not Be Named.”

Enjoy this unique St Augustine attraction.

Fascinating History and Life-Like Figures - Some of the wax figures were so good, they seemed almost alive. The museum was broken up into various sections, including World War 2 historical figures, US Presidents, and famous scientists. This was far more interesting and professional than what I was expecting.

Neat Little Museum - This was my first visit to a wax museum and it was a pretty cool experience. I thought it was really interesting that the guy that founded the museum was inspired after visiting Madame Tussaud’s wax museum as a child. The wax figures are extremely lifelike and fun to look at. It only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to take the self guided tour. There is a small gift shop as you enter the museum that has some neat stuff. The employees were friendly folks and the restroom was spotless which is always a plus. I definitely recommend a one time visit. And check out the Michael Jordan wax figure. Uncanny resemblance!

Small but interesting - A great experience. It's a small collection but visitors are allowed to get close enough to the figures to take photos. It claims to be the first in the U.S. Featured are Ray Charles at the piano; he attended the St. Augustine school for blind and deaf people. Also Johnny Depp dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow. Friendly staff. Check for a coupon in the free visitor guides available almost anywhere. Only negative: It's a small museum and a tight fit between figures.

Frozen in Time - Being honest, we have toured a really good one and this one would have to come in second. There were several really good figures that were detailed and lifelike but some just lacked it. Its not a big museum but still worth going through and checking out the figures.

Characters no resemblace to actual people - The Potter Wax Museum in St. Augustine is not a great attraction. Some of the wax figures have no resemblance to actual characters (Presidents: Obama and Trump in particular). I know the place is old; but a little dusting would help!

Poor visit don’t spend your money!! - Unfortunately half of the wax statues doesn’t look like the real people. The place is very small and and some of the wax statues doesn’t have nothing to do with history like “Franklinstain”and “The monster of the black lagoon” 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
