Wat Mahathat - 15:30 (30 minutes): Wat Mahathat, built in the 13th century, is one of Ayutthaya’s oldest and most significant temples, housing the Buddha’s holy relic.

Wat Yai Chai Mang Khon - 16:15 (30 minutes): Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, or the “Great Monastery of Auspicious Victory,” features a high prang (tower) and dates back to the late 14th century during King U Thong’s reign. The temple is still active with resident monks. The current name was given in the late 16th century when a large chedi was built. A large Reclining Buddha statue wrapped in yellow cloth faces east. The temple was destroyed during the 1767 invasion but remains a must-visit.

Wat Chaiwatthanaram - 16:45: Wat Chaiwatthanaram is one of Ayutthaya’s most iconic and well-preserved temples, known for its Khmer-style architecture and riverside location. It’s popular for late afternoon and sunset visits, with locals often praying in traditional clothing. Watch for bats at sunset. One stupa is under restoration but doesn’t affect the sunset view. We’ll return to see the temple illuminated at night.
