Highlights
  • Wat Mahathat - Wat Mahathat, “the temple of the Great Relic” was one of the most important temples in the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Located on the historical island the large monastery features a huge central prang, a very large principal viharn and ubosot and a great number of subsidiary chedis and viharns. The upper part of its once massive central prang has collapsed. Today only the base remains.
  • Wat Phra Sri Sanphet - Wat Phra Si Sanphet, also known as the “Temple of the Holy, Splendid Omniscient” was the holiest temple in Ayutthaya during the Ayutthaya period and until the city was destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. It was the grandest and most beautiful temple in the capital and it served as a model for Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.
  • Vihara Phra Mongkhon Bophit - Housing a large bronze seated Buddha image of 12.45 meters high (Phra Mongkhon Bophit), it was originally enshrined outside the Grand Palace to the east. It could be dated to the 15th and has a long history prior to being enshrined and to being covered nowadays with a Mondop. To know more, please ask our guide who will be delighted to provide you with further explanations.
  • Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Lokayasutharam) - Wat Lokayasutharam is situated at Pratoochai District, behind the Ancient Palace and the Pratoochai Primary School, in the area 0f Wat Worapoh (Wat Rakhang) and Wat Worachettharam.

Wat Lokayasutharam is 800 meters from Wat Phra Mongkon Bophit. Wat Worachettharam and Wat Worapoh are also closeby. Nevertheless, we had quite some difficulty finding Wat Lokayasutharam, likely our otherwise good Ayutthaya map, was a bit off the mark.

  • Chao Phraya River - Cruise and Lunch on the Chao Phraya River by Cruise Boat
  • Temple Of Dawn (Wat Arun) - Pass by boat
  • The Grand Palace - Pass by Boat
  • ICONSIAM - A new shopping complex located on the banks of Chao Phraya River.

If you're looking for a... - If you're looking for a tour that is relaxing and full of historic sites, then this is it! It was great learning about the old capitol, the food at the cruise was very yummy. The boat itself wasn't was luxurious as I pictured it but the site and the food made up for it.

Great day - Our guide First was a local from the area and knew so much about its history. He was also funny and engaging. The buffet on the boat was tasty and varied and we were told many things about Bangkok on the way back.

Great temple experience and fab river cruise. - The whole experience was fab. The driver collected us bang on the time he said he would followed by a short drive to collect the coach. The temples were amazing and well worth visiting, the tour guide was knowledgable but not to the point where he was talking for the sake of it. he gave us enough information when needed. The highlight of the day was the river cruise from the outskirts of bangkok to the centre, with the added bonus of lunch on board great views of such a vibrant and developing city from the river.

A magical tour - I was completely knocked out by the scale of the stupas and ruins. Bigger and more spectacular than I imagined. A great historical experience. And a relaxing cruise back down the river with a nice lunch.
