An underrated off-beaten attraction - The trip to the off-beaten site is amazing. It's not too far from city, only 1-2 hour drive. The idea of making a stop at a restaurant to allow us for buying food is wonderful as there are no decent eateries at the spot. The short hike to the rainbow mountain is just good enough to fit everyone with different abilities. The visit to the monastery is also wonderful, though it is kind of remote and less well-known. The location of picnic lunch is good with scenic views, but it may be slightly demanding for those with less steady foot. The guide Tota is friendly, humble and helpful, also knowledgable enough to provide good explanations.

Stunning scenery and peaceful monastery - We really enjoyed this tour - Nik, our guide was full of interesting facts, very knowledgeable and a great photographer, which was good as there were plenty of photo opportunities. Our stop at the Rainbow Mountains gave us plenty of time to take in the views. The hike was not too challenging, but sensible shoes are a must as it can be very slippy on the descent. David Gareji Monastery was definitely worth a visit - we hiked up to just below the Azerbaijani border for fantastic views. The monastery was very calm and a great place to sit quietly and enjoy the peace.

Kapatadze Lake, Rainbow Mountains & David Gareja Monastery (Highly Recommended) - I recently embarked on a day trip to Kapatadze Lake, the Rainbow Mountains, and David Gareja Monastery, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Each stop on the journey offered something unique and left a lasting impression. The day began with a visit to Kapatadze Lake, a serene and beautiful spot surrounded by lush greenery. The tranquility of the lake was the perfect start to the day, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The reflections of the surrounding landscape on the water created a picture-perfect scene. Next, we traveled to the Rainbow Mountains, which were simply breathtaking. The vibrant colors of the mountains, with their striking layers of reds, yellows, and oranges, felt almost surreal. Walking through this geological wonder was like being in a natural art gallery, and I was amazed by the beauty of the formations. The final stop was David Gareja Monastery, an ancient and remote complex carved into the rocky cliffs. The history and spirituality of this place are deeply moving. As we explored the caves and chapels, our guide shared fascinating stories about the monks who lived there, adding a rich layer of context to the visit. The panoramic views from the monastery were spectacular, stretching out over the border into Azerbaijan. The entire day was expertly organized (thanks to Nina), and our guide (Metroman) was knowledgeable and passionate, bringing the history and natural beauty of these sites to life. This trip is a must-do for anyone visiting Georgia—it perfectly combines the country’s stunning landscapes with its rich cultural heritage.
