Highlights
  • Rose Revolution Square - We’ll meet you in front of the Bicycle Monument near Radisson Blu Iveria at 10:00 or 14:00. (Rose revolution square. 50m from Rustaveli metro station) You will see our tour leader wearing a red scarf. If you are a group of more than four people, We will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the old capital.

  • Jvari Church - After 30 minutes drive, we will arrive at Jvari Monastery. The name of this monastery is translated as the “Monastery of the Cross.” Jvari Monastery is a sixth-century Georgian Orthodox monastery near Mtskheta. Along with other historic structures of Mtskheta, it is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Jvari Monastery stands on the rocky mountaintop at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, overlooking the town of Mtskheta, which was formerly the capital of the Kingdom of Iberia.

  • Svetitskhoveli Cathedral - After a 20-minute drive from Jvari monastery, we will arrive at Svetitskhoveli in Mtskheta. Mtskheta is one of the oldest cities in Georgia, founded by the ancient Meschian tribes in the 5th century. Due to its historical significance and several cultural monuments, it is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It was the capital of the early Georgian Kingdom of Iberia from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD. However, Mtskheta continued to serve as the coronation and burial place for most kings of Georgia until the end of the kingdom in the 19th century. The Svetitskhoveli Cathedral is currently the second-largest church building in Georgia, after the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Known as the burial site of Christ’s mantle, Svetitskhoveli has long been one of the principal Georgian Orthodox churches and is among the most venerated places of worship in the region. Svetitskhoveli was not only the site of the coronation of the Georgian kings but also served as their burial place.

Mtskheta tour - The tour was simply amazing! Chinka gave us all the information we needed and more! She is an extremely kind and cheerful person and always made sure we are comfortable. The tour is just long enough - we visited a monastery and a church and had time to also explore the local crafts and food. Last but not least, the views were breathtaking!

UNESCO sites - Makuna is incredibly knowledgeable and easy to speak to. We took the group tour to the UNESCO sites with my 6-year-old, the monasteries were absolutely stunning. We loved going around the bazaar as well. Makuna kept us captivated by sharing fascinating insights into Georgian history and religion. I highly recommend her for this tour.
