Highlights

Your journey through time unfolds when your coach travels to a pre-European village set deep within the forest, 15 minutes from Rotorua. Let this 3.5-hour tour and your imagination take over as your guide instructs you on the protocol for visiting the marae. A chief is selected, a song is learnt and the eerie cry of the welcome is heard before you enter the world of the proud warriors of the ancient Maori.

You will experience the powhiri (welcome ceremony) before you enter the village, with crackling open fires in front of traditional whare (houses). You’ll hear traditional Maori instruments and watch the daily activities of days gone by. In the wharenui (meeting house), a Rangiatea culture group offers a powerful display of haka song and dance. Then, as new friendships are forged, dine on a traditional hangi feast, where the food is cooked slowly beneath the ground in earth ovens.

This is an amazing re-enactment based on actual events from history, with real characters, traditional arts and crafts, powerful song and dance while enjoying an authentic Hangi feast.

Exceptional experience - This family run adventure was seriously one of the best evenings I have had for some time. I hope all New Zealanders and visitors to New Zealand get to experience it. From the time we entered until the time we left it was a learning, participating, eating and entertainment venture that surpassed expectation. Don't eat for some time before going... the food will impress you! The singing was amazing and dining with the hosts a treat we thoroughly enjoyed.

Must do Maori cultural experience in Rotorua - Great experience and value for money. The interactive section of the tour where you learned about Maori culture was informative and fun and the singing was very moving. A special thank you also to Dennis our bus driver for the informative commentary on the way to Te Pa Tu and for his delightful serenading on the return trip home.

A must see - I'm not going to say anything that the other outstanding 5 star reviews haven't already said but seriously, go see this show. The hosts do an amazing job of making you feel welcome and providing education of their culture and history. I would definitely go again if I am in the area and encourage everyone else to attend as well

Excellent Maori Experience and Dinner - Amazing evening getting immersed in the Maori culture and then ending with a wonderfully prepared meal. The performances during and after dinner were fantastic and they did a good job of getting to know everyone there and making them feel welcome. Defintiely recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Awesome Night Out at Te Pa Tu! - Just wanted to drop a huge thanks for the incredible evening at Te Pa Tu! I’ve seen how it’s grown from the Tamaki days and wow, it’s gotten even better. The whole experience is way more interactive now, and the staff are super friendly, really making you feel like part of the family. Big shoutout to Ava, who totally rocked it! She was amazing with our diverse group, chatting up everyone regardless of age or where they were from. It’s rare to see someone so young handle things like a pro. Everything from the cultural shows to the food was top-notch. If you’re in Rotorua and looking for a genuine, fun cultural experience, you’ve gotta check out Te Pa Tu. What a night to remember – thanks again!

Great traditional experience - It was a very nice experience. We are received with a traditional ritual, then we go to separate groups and have some nice experiences and share some stories about us. Ends the night with a very delicious dinner. Unfortunately for me, my table received one desert less than the number of people in the table, and I let the others have it while I requested one for me. Besides having requested it twice, and the people organizing it telling me “it was on its way”, I and was forced to leave without it as the shuttle bus was leaving the premises. This part was sad for me, as shows lack of care, besides the rest of the experience being really nice.
